  • Micro perforated film, how to ?

Posted by Lionel Hermans on June 18, 2015 at 5:59 pm

    Hi,

I need advices. Tomorrow, we need to place micro-perforated film a window (5x3meters).
As my printer can print max 120cm, I will make 5 rolls of 1 meter each.

As it is micro perforated film, I now the overlap can really be seen from inside, do I need to do an overlap or I can place the film edge-to-edge ? Does that film retracts overtime ?

Also, can I use soap-water for easy apply ? Any tips & tricks ?

    Thanks,
    Lionel

    Hi Lionel
Fitting one way vision isn’t too difficult.
It’s extremely difficult to get a perfect join when you try and match edge to edge, as no matter how good you are, you will still see a join from the inside.
Also, with an edge to edge, or Butt join, over time, the vinyl will shrink a little and leave a gap between the panels.
It is quite acceptable to have a 10mm overlap of panels. Yes, you can see from inside, but if applied correctly, will eliminate any Gapping between panels.
Don’t be too forceful when applying to glass as it can tear quite easily.
Soapy water can be used if needed although I prefer a dry application.
Make sure the glass is completely clean, including any rubber beading before applying the vinyl otherwise it won’t stick properly at the edges and may suffer from edge curl over time

    Regards

    Iain

Thanks for the tips Chris. All went perfectly well!
I made an overlap and slightly cut it to have a perfect finition.
