• Method Statements

Does any one have a general Method Statement that describes the work of a signmaker fitting signs to vehicles and windows.

One of my clients has had a visit from the H&S fascists who want to see method statements from all his suppliers or he’s for the high jump 😕

You could use my method statement Phill.

    1. Peel it
    2. Lick it
    3. Stick it.

Just a thought, do you carry out the work on your customers premises or in your own place?

    quote John Childs:

:lol1: :lol1: :lol1: – This is for when I do work at their premises – it’s a car dealership and I often provide signs for their demonstrators and window graphics for the showrooms. I would normally tell them to shove it up their @rse but it’s a good customer with years of repeat business so I’m going to have to knuckle down and provide one if I don’t want to lose the business. They are even having to ask their window cleaner for a Method statement. I think it’s a load of P1sh myself 🙄

By the way – I was reading recently about a fire brigade who have been banned from installing smoke detectors in houses because it is deemed to be too dangerous for them to climb up a step ladder. (I thought Firemen and ladders went together like fish and chips) . Meanwhile, how many old age pensioners are going to have to die in fires because they don’t have a smoke alarm installed all because of H&S working at heights regulations.

Sorry… I just went of on a rant there 😳

Any ways – does anyone have something I could base mine on or do I have to waste a few hours of my lifetime finding out how to write one 😕

A method statement is pretty easy, and can be REALLY basic. It’s like writing for ISO9002…what you leave out can’t hurt you… 😉

Done a few method statements & risk assessments in my time, mainly for public leisure / shopping centres / train stations…and a rig supply ship 🙄

…I honestly don’t think I’ve 100% adhered to one I’ve presented yet…and nobody cares so long as there is paperwork.

All on work PC though…see if I remember / can find later.

Had to do one of these a while ago for a 9M x 3M sign 2 years ago.
Just describe the job your doing and materials used step by step!!
ie. 1.Clean down windows using methylated spirit
    2.position pre-cut graphics onto window
    3.Stick the bloody things on!!!

Some of the method statement is to deal with identifying hazards and what your doing about them.

Like at the car dealership pointing out you could be run over and what you are going to do about it, like using hi viz jackets etc.

If the HSE person is really nasty they’ll ask about your cleaning fluids and what they are made from, knives etc.

but like Dave said what you leave out can’t hurt you, keep it simple.
