Method Statement

Hi Neil

A method statement is just what it says. You say what you are going to do. Take ladders into mall erect in front of shop put sign up take ladders down go home, very simplified.

This is all you have to do, its a story, little extra, you realy want to indentify any potenetial hazards from a health and safety point of view and add them into method statement , like "watch out for crazy shoppers nipping under ladders" fitters not to be smoking and drinking while carry ladders" etc, its just a story that identifies risks before you do the job so they understand what you are going to do and that you understand the potenetial risks, it takes about 10 minutes

LOL trying doing one for a fit in a swimming poll when it was full and the scaffold was in the swimmiing pool "sharks"

Thanks Adrian, luckily we can’t work till after 6pm so very few shoppers about.
I see where your at though and Ill just write the statement as you suggest.
I guess it’ll help me plan the job out too, always learning in this trade 😀

This is the template we use if it’s any help? Seems to cover us for most jobs.
I try to leave as vague as possible as there’s always something they haven’t told me till I get on site! No one’s ever checked I’m doing it as my MS anyway!
Another tip is to carry a copy of your Public Liability Insurance, we’ve been asked for it on 2 of the last 3 jobs.

I have a risk assessment template if anyone wants a copy

Just remember, most people will want a Risk Assessment as well as the method statement. You should also have COSHH risk assessment and supporting MSDS for and chemicals you may be using (cleaning / degreasing agents, window cleaner, adhesives etc.)

Add this to the copies of your insurance liability cover, licences for MEWPS or erecting scaffolding, insurance certs for any lifting equipment, slings etc you may be using.

The list goes on and on. H&S has got more complex even for simple tasks.
