    Hi guys and gals
I just wanted to know if anyone had any fitting tips for metalmark with apex glue? We got in some of the new md- Xb for a swb sprinter wrap, we have used most brands available to us and we have good experience in what we do but it seems to be an absolute pig to work with, very aggressive tack as soon as it’s near a panel and the bubbles are crazy, we can deal with it and we will figure it out but just wanted to know if there where any tips to make life a bit easier with it

    Cheers
    John

Hi rob, my printer is a mimaki cjv30-130, I got the metamark profiles and even spoke to them about what profile to use, they said the md5 ones.. printed on Saturday morning and laminated today with the matching metaguard x, I know all the air release vinyls spoil us but being a sprinter I don’t want popping in the recesses in a few months so opted for this, thought that it’s brand new it might have a glue that was pressure sensitive so it could be lifted when needed, it will lift but the grab is fast..

Sorry meant to say, it has a great finish and a nice feel, the squeegee glides on it real nice too but bits like when going into the recesses where you heat the flat and shape the bend, the bend goes in lovely but the flat bit that still needs pushed down just bubbles like crazy

    Hi John

Do you mean this vinyl does not have an air release adhesive system?
How do you store your prints to outgas?
loose on side, laying on a table or?

Yes the new md-Xb has no air release system, they say it’s for deap recesses and I was of the understanding air release still has issues on tough bends, they where loose on the roll on Saturday then later out flat on Sunday

This is why I think it’s a bit of a false economy. It’s commendable they are making a cheaper wrap vinyl but it takes a lot longer to fit than with the repositionable adhesives that the more expensive brands use, culminating in this new Arlon SLX which is incredibly easy to fit.

I agree Jon, i thought being a new product it would have an adhesive that was a bit more advanced, we needed 25 mtrs as they do a kit that size and everyone else over here do the rolls in 15 or 45 mtr kits

just to close this nightmare, we got through it not too bad, it hold a great print but it is the most unlikable vinyl we have ever used, so it was a big learning curve and it goes in the never again files

I agree it can be aggressive on grab.. but not as aggressive as KPMG.. It’s very soft conformable for the money.. I’d say not for deep recesses but ok on medium upto berlingo vivaro. i would use 3M primer if on deeper recesses or on lower sill edges as a catch net. I wrapped for a year with it at Signs Express and noticed the grab increases when it has darker inks printed.. i.e. blue black browns.. More ink takes a lot lot longer to outgas before laminating in than advised… If so this is a tell tale sign of outgassing not complete. And it eats the adhesive structure/thus removing the air channels structures /thus making flatter/ more aggressive in my experience. I started wrapping in 2003. then in 2008 avery trained until 2015 I wrapped almost daily in My wrap installation /training business wrapido europe. Hope this helps
