Being the newbie I am, I’m always a little proud of things I do for the first time. This time its my first A board. 😀

I’m doing a special offer when I open the shop of a metal A board, all the artwork included for £95. I know its cheap as chips and I could get more, but I have to start somewhere. 😕

Anyway, really simple design I put together using the Fido guy that you see on boy racer cars. I didn’t want to do anything too fancy as you can imagine. The fancier the design on this, the more the customer will expect. Eeeee, us Northerners eh! 😉 And I did it all dry! and in one go which makes me very happy, I was quite nervous that I’d end up with more bubbles than an Aero bar! 😉

    Cheers, Dewi

vert nifty mate.. i like it! 😉

price is just about right i would think 🙄 we could all say we can get more, and we could. reality is we need to make sales. if its a fixed price £95 they take it or leave it. just make sure they do milk you on what goes onto it 😉

Is that an “A display” powder coated A board Dewi?
I usually charge about 120 -130 + Vat for one of those complete with a reasonable amount of lettering, so £95 is a good attractive price to draw them in. 😀

Just use that as a base price for a single colour design. When you’ve got them interested you can sell multi colour stuff for more.

Thank you for the replies 😀 Glad you all like it. Obviously its no Mona Lisa, but its a starting point for me and hopefully I’ll come up with some crackers once I have a bit more confidence 😀 I’m pleased that I’m not way off the mark as far as pricing goes, another confidence builder 🙂

Thats a good one Jon, hadn’t looked at it like that! 😀 Even if I only added £20 on for using more colours, its a bit extra in the pot. I’ll see how I fare with this as I’m not overly sure how I’m going to be percieved in my local area as of yet. I’ve got quite a bit of work already which is positive, but most of the orders I have are ppl who I would bump into anyway.

I like your A board Mark, its the same swing sign design I have in stock. Nice and simple design though. Have you wrapped it in black vinyl or layed the black vinyl onto the metal or sprayed it? (confusing myself here!)

Phill, I think it is powder coated. I bought two from Cherwell Sign Supplies, along with two swing signs, just to get me started. I’m impressed with the quality of them as they were both under £40! I’m hoping to make up some wooden ones with the timber I have left from kitting the shop out, see how they go as like an economy A board. Its all experience atm, hard work at times, but experience 😀

Its interesting to see our the price varies with location, in our area the most you can stretch is £85 – £90, luckily we have lots of cheapskates to keep us going

yep it is good to see the price variation like you said craig,.
it just dawned on me when i saw marks swing A-board that, that is the one we would sell for about £100 basic lettering though, eaborate would be more.
we sell the poster holder type also and thats a bit more. maybe £130-£140 lettered.

i think folk showing what they charge is good to give us and new comers an idea on prices, but location is something to watch for.
i see some work on the boards go for 2-300 pounds yet i know in scotland
£200 would be the limit to ask.. not because the work is any better just the cost of living in that area is exspensive..

ok im off to my caravan to get ready 😆 😆 😉

    Dewi

    Can I make a suggestion.

Instead of lettering up your A Board with the same design on both sides.

Do the other side with another design. Then turn the A Board around each time you put it out side. That way you get 2 messages across.

I`ve got an advert for vehicle lettering on one side and Gerber Edge sticker/decals on the other.

May I make another suggestion. CHAIN IT TO THE WALL, or it could go walkies or even worse, it the wind blows it over and it hits a car or a passer by, you could have a law suit on your hands…

No!!!! – don’t put it out on the pavement Dewi – you’ll have lawsuits galore from all the Blind people claiming compensation from you after they’ve walked into it 😕

One thing that you have to be careful when selling A-Boards or Swing Signs is that your customer has permission to have a pavement sign out on the pavement, if they don’t then the council will take it away in the back of their vans and they’ll never see it again. Well they do around here any way!

Chaining it to a wall wont stop a pavement sign from going walkies, the council will just cut straight through it!

my A Boards been put outside every day for nearly 5 years, never had a blind person walk into it or had the council threatening to take it away. 😀

if you ask all your A Boards clients if they have permission to have an A Board, you`ll put most people off buying one.

If they do need permision to have one in certain areas, it`s up to the customer to sort it.

Dewi……………thats a reasonable price for that Abrd in my opinion, round here we’d get the same with a one – two col vinyl basic design. I don’t know what the panel size is on that one of yours so have a look at a few different firms prices. I’ve seen that A brd for £33 plus VAT.

This particular A board is going to be used inside the shop for now, as I have 3 others to rotate on the pavement. I’d figured on a different design on the back Becky, so I could rotate my shop display a little with different offers at different times. Definately be chaining it to the shop though, and I’d love to see them try and cut through a bike security chain 😉 I’d have to sit and watch 😀

On the pricing issue, I agree its down to area, but I think there is a certain amount of barter power as well. I don’t like paying the marked price for things, although I haven’t bartered much recently. But I’ve made most of prices with a certain amount of flexibility in them. This is mainly so I can offer a deal if a customer wants some printing, an A board and a shop sign all at the same time. I’d even consider throwing the printing in for free if they had a vehicle done at the same time. As always, I am a newbie (be gentle 😉 ) and I know I am still learning the ropes as far as pricing (and many other things for that matter) but I really think ppl will pay if the designs and quality is right. Again, time will tell 😀

    Cheers, Dewi

I`ve always thought that around the £100 mark is a reasonable price for an standard A Board.

But when the local “Cheap Car Dealer” came into my shop the other day, asked for a price on an A Board. He never flinched at the £110 I quoted.

He picked it up later on in the week, and let slip the last board he bought, which is one of the worst timber boards I`ve ever seen. Cost him £150. 😮

Some people don`t want to pay the proper price and other people are more than willing to pay over the odds for something. 🙄

Dewi, don`t sell yourself short. Let those who want something for nothing walk out of your shop. You get customers that are willing to pay for your skills.
