Max OSX 10.9 Maverick and Cutting Master 2 BEWARE!!
Posted by Simon Elliott on October 26, 2013 at 12:34 pmWent to do a quick job today and found that my Cutting Master2 (v1.86) couldn’t find production manager. Having updated the mac to the new OS yesterday I figured this might be the problem.
I’ve tried updating CM2 to version 1.93 but still nothing. After you hit cut/plot in illustrator (I’m still using CS4) it goes to Cutting Master then throws up an error saying Cutting Master quit… then another window saying Unable to find production manager.
For the time being I will refer to a backed up version of the operating system but has anyone got any ideas? I see some guys on sign101 are having the same issue with an FC7000 with no apparent fix.

I’ve hung off updating on the one machine till I heard from someone saying it was working.
During a discussion on here with another member over something else graph tech I can guess that v 1.94 for windows is already out but only 1.93 for mac so I reckon they are sitting on 1.94 till they get it tweaked to Maveric, have you tried version 3 yet to see if that works, if not ill give it a try on another mac monday and let you know, I don’t like using v3 as its so different but might get you out of a whole.
I’m also waiting to hear if Caldera works with latest mac if anyone happens to know that reads this.

Frankly until I know that CM3 will work I am a bit reluctant to get too far away from my old CM2 1.84… maybe its just me but going from 1.84 to 1.93 then updating the firmware then updating to CM3 gives me a whole load of variables to contend with if it still doesn’t work…
Can anyone confirm that they have Cutting Master working (any flavour!) with Mac OSx 10.9 Maverick?
Seems like my time machine backup isn’t the easy thing I thought it would be either. Sounds like a job for a weekday not a Saturday!!

They work separately yes your right I had to upgrade the firmware in the cutter for v3 to work but they work totally differently and you can have both versions installed at the same time and use either. I installed V3 tried it a couple times but still use V2 most of the time.
Personally I don’t think your going to be able to restore from a backup because of the way apple do things on upgrades but I could be wrong, I would say your best bet is to setup a virtual machine on mavericks and use that to cut with for a minute till they release the update.
If your really stuck Ill drive out to the yard and see if V3 works?

Thats a really kind offer, thanks Kevin.
Thankfully its a small job of 8 rectangular stickers so for the time being I can cut them by hand. Im also out Mon / Tues so will see what develops as the week goes on and more people come across the problem. Will also drop Graphtec an email to see what occurs.
Cheers

At the moment CM3 is NOT compatible with Maverick. I spoke to Graphtec and they confirmed this.
-
Thanks for that, lets hope they pull their finger out a bit and get something working must be a lot of people who upgraded thinking it would be fine.
-
I hope the fix comes fast. To be fair to them I suppose they can’t second guess what apple might do with their operating systems but a week since it was released I am surprised they haven’t either responded to my email OR posted an update on their site.

Hi guys, I did – I upgraded too and my Graphtec CE 5000-60 and CM2 don’t work – how can I get a heads up on a new firmware and cutting master being available for Maverick – is there a register?
thanks
Billy 🙁

No its just a case of checking their download page, will post links soon as i see it come out, I normally check most days.

If you have down installed maverick and can’t revert back it may be worth downloading and installing CM3 as I received this response for Graphtec America.
"Yes the Cutting Master 3 is compatible with MAC OSX 10.9
Thank you for using our Graphtec product,
Regards,
Duy Le
Technical Support,
Graphtec America, Inc."This was received after being told by Graphtec UK that it was not comparable. I dare not risk it as my system is running perfect on 10.8 but if you have taken the plunge and can’t cut then it may be worth downloading cm3 as you have noting to loose.

Wow really – cheers Alex, I’ll get in early and try that!
I’ve managed to rig up a 9 year old mac book meantime LOL!
Cheers

With CM3 you need your firmware up to a certain version before it will work so make sure you check that as well.
If it wasn’t for the fact Im not sure on the caldera rip being compatable with maverick I would have probably carried on and upgraded but CM3 is a total re-design and it breaks away from old habits of just cutting a bit at the time, guess Im going to have to get my head round it sooner or later.
Thanks for the info alex.

I’ve downloaded CM3 and placed the plug in in the extension folder within the application Illustrator CC folder as instructed, and Illustrator won’t launch.
As soon as I remove the plug in from the folder it launches fine – so I guess it’s not ready yet. 🙁

Just received an update for cutting master 3, it doesn’t mention maverick but i downloaded to a macbook pro running cs6 and maverick and it installed without a problem.
I am know going to have a glass of wine and see if it helps me pluck op the courage
to install maverick on the main machine. Will report back. -
Maverick 10.9 installed and running cutting Master release 2.1.211gc with no problems. This is with AI CS6 but graphtec have updated for cc.

Just to confirm this, despite also being told a release wasn’t due until February by Graphtec the CM3 with firmware 3.2 does indeed work on OS10.9 Mavericks.
Happy Days. Just need to suss how CM3 works now… its very different.
