After seeing Mike Stevens book recommended so many times on here I thought I would buy it,
I just received my book today courtesy of Amazon USA, (couldn’t find it anywhere in the UK, for less than 50 quid second hand,) It also only took about 10 days to arrive
I maybe not looking hard enough, haven’t had time to read it yet but flicked through and from what I just saw flicking through it looks great, so many little things you wouldn’t have thought of,
anyway excellent reccomendation by all of you who have it, its a nice addition to my many books most of which are for 2D and 3D graphics but this one takes pride of place on top of the ones Im actually going to read. :lol1:

Steve, got mine direct from the US, delivered for about £25 thanks to a post by Jillbeans. Think I would have paid 4 times that as the book is well worth it.

That’s what I paid total, thought it was excellent, just goes to show why were called rip off Britain eh.
No customs charges either as it was under the threshold

    Shipping Method: Expedited International Shipping
Shipping Preference: Group my items into as few shipments as possible
    Subtotal of Items: $29.95
    Shipping & Handling: $12.48
    ——
    Total for this Order: $42.43

£21 and a few pence for the book delivered

Might have to sell up and move there, at this exchange rate.

I looked at Handovers when I was looking for brushes but maybe they were out of stock,
In any case it was cheaper form the U.S.A doesn’t figure does it.
Would have bought in the UK if I found it though, I have to by some 1 shot from handovers soon so that’ll make up for my traitorous activities

i bought mine from wrights of lymm at Stewart mclarens letterheads meet in Scotland. i asked as many sign writers as i could to sign it at the end of the meet. got some great names on there from all over the world.
not sure what i paid because i bought it along with a 3-bit alloy mahl stick and an assortment of brushes which jillbeans recommended. 😀

Is that a mahl stick in yer pants Rob or are you just happy to see me?

Steve, good for you on obtaining a valuable guide. It is priceless.
It should be owned and read by everyone who makes signs.
Mine is in pieces now, and paint-splattered.
Maybe Santa will bring me one if I am a very good girl.

    Love….Jill

The man thinks of things you would never think of
Until you read it, he definitely knew how to paint signs that’s for sure. and make sure you looked at the right bits of them too.

haven’t had time to read it today though Ive been busy making signs with no negative space and all capitals in a brush script font.

…………….on bright blue dibond with red writing.

    😛

Actually I havent read it because I have 50 T shirts and hoodies to print, then off to see madness at the pavillions.
However there is a guy here who does make signs like that, who just got an office here It’ll be a good advert for me I guess.

Great book for beginners and people that have already been in the business. Probably a little more expensive since it would have to be shipped over seas, but its well worth it. I got lucky when i ordered mine a few years back, i thought I was getting the paperback version and the place sent me a hardcover. $18 USD on Amazon from a reseller, it was pre-owned but flawless.

The next book you need to get is Bil Stewarts "signwork, a craftmans manual"

covers a lot more of the practical side of signmaking.

covers all the basics in detail from gold leaf to brushwork to vinyl

It should be the law to read Mike’s book if you’re in the sign game.

Can’t remember Peter, I bought it at the beginning of the year after hearing about it on here, I did many searches and most places in UK did not have it or was expensive. I can’t remember where I looked or how much it was but I just remember that’s why I bought it from US. I think I was still a bit of a newbie to think of asking on here where I could get it 😳 :lol1: I paid £24 for it second hand 😕

I’m up to chapter three. Natural layout has already helped me fix mental blocks I have by giving me a good starting point. This so far is a really good book. I can see why its so highly recommended. I’ll get half way by tonight.

    great book by the way.
I agree with everyone who says you should buy this.
Only thing now I wish I wrote it, he must be minted.
