  • Masking tape, which one?

Posted by Stephen Morriss on November 8, 2005 at 8:26 pm

Just about out of the stuff and was wondering about other makes etc.

I’m currently using 3M beige, seems ok for application but I’m having problems with it when I use a little strip to tape my vinyl rolls, it gets really sticky after a few weeks and then leaves the glue behind.

    Anyone got a favorite?

When you next buy application tape ask for a couple of 1″ rolls to be lathed. It doesn’t degrade like masking tape and can also be good for use on cold windows where masking tape will not stick.

Winzer Wurth for me cheaper than Screwfix (if you haggle) and designed foe the car industry so no glue remants nice and yellow, so easily seen against app tape etc.

    Hope that helps

Like with masking tape after a period of time which is dependent on the conditions its stored or exposed to , Paper app tape adhesive emulsifies hence a shelf life of 6 months , this makes it almost impossible to remove, if you want to leave anything masked for a length of time then the clear film version is made for this.

:lol1: :lol1: Hey Cammy, if I still have tape on my shelves at 6 months, I have not done a very good job of offering my ‘special deals’ to my racing car clients 🙄

Amazing how my slow moving colours is just what the guy needs for his new signs 😳 takes abit of convincing sometimes tho 😮

I never thought of using the paper app tape or even the clear app tape.

I could use the old bits taken of jobs, makes it even cheaper 🙂
