Ok, first off I have to ask if you know what type of martial arts they are training with? Are they mixed or is it a specific discipline (Taekwondo, Hapkido, Kung Fu, Judo, Karate etc…). It can be important because depending on what specific country the martial art is based can influence the style and symbols you should use. I would say get rid of the samurai clip art looking guy. If it’s a mixed martial arts or if they are also teaching other martial arts that aren’t found in Asia such Krav Maga (Israeli martial art) could be important also. Is it also just a gym? Do they do Yoga there (just asking because of the name Nirvana)?

I wouldn’t mix the San Serif font "&" with the calligraphic font. Is that bright yellow color already the color of you part or is that one you just picked. Also is this going to be screened or is it going to vinyl? Sorry for all the question, just trying to get an idea about the background on this sign so I can have an idea of what might fit.

I can give more help if you have any more specific info. Thanks!

ok, I threw together a few ideas. Of course they could be tightened up a lot and adjusted. The symbol in the middle is the Bagua. It relates to a lot of different aspects of Asian culture. You can look it up on Wikipedia to see the background. It’s especially prominent in I Ching. Part of this symbol is on the Korean flag which are almost always on display in a Taekwondo class. Anyway it’s just for ideas.

Yeah, most of my friends are Asian. My soon to be wife is Korean. My brother and I took Taekwondo when I was a teen. I never made if very far before quitting. I wish I had gone further in it now. I do know some of the stances and techniques. One of the first bosses I had was in Special Forces back in the Korean war and Vietnam. They were trained in Judo and he described it’s style of fighting a good bit to me. I also worked in a Tattoo shop for a few years drawing a lot of the custom artwork requests. The Japanese Irezumi style is really popular. So I had a good bit of study to understand that art form.
