  • Mark up on a trade supplied banner

    What do you think is the correct mark up on a digitally printed banner that has been purchased from a trade supplier?
    I have a job to do, the banner is 48ft x 8ft and my little versacamm is simply not big enough for this one 😕
    I’m going to use a trade supplier but l’m wondering what mark up to put on it. Anyone got any ideas?

    Hi billy,
    depends on who your customer is and what he/she knows about the market. I know people who pay £260 for banners that size including finishing. We quoted them at £550 and they just laughed. However we get £1600 for mesh banners that size from a customer of ours, he sells these on to a builders for scaffolds.
    Some of the big digital companies in England quote as low as £8 per sq.m including finishing but have massive minimum order values, usually only deal pro-forma with new accounts and would likely look for a 2-3 week turnround time.

    I have to agree with John, some companys go this sort of work very cheap and you could never compete with there prices.
    I had a guy in about 6 months ago looking for a price for a vinyl cut banner, gave him my usual price for a banner this size and he told me he could get one for half the price off the internet. Told him to go ahead and order from the net as I couldn’t compete with that.
    He ended up ordering from me because he needed it for the week-end and they took 2 – 3 weeks to deliver.
    Point is give him a price that you are happy with and if he complains then you might have some room to manouver/discount depending on how much you want this guy for a customer. You could also try phoning a couple of other local companys to get an idea of how much they might charge.

    Thanks for the advice lads.
    I took on board your comments, phoned around for a few prices. Told the client and he’s happy, l’m happy, everyones happy 🙂 😀
    Just one problem now, got to get the file onto a CD and send it, probably take all day as it’s going to be a huge file.

    What sort of size and dpi did you set it up at?

    I designed it in photoshop as l always find that this program converts files to eps with no worries at all.
    However the size was a problem. In the end l designed it about 40% of the size. The dpi went out at about 100 for eps. Would have liked to have gone a bit bigger with the dpi but photoshop wouldn’t let me because it sssssssooooooooooo big.
    Should be OK for a banner of this size. 😕
