• Mark 2 outline

Posted by Harry Cleary on March 14, 2006 at 2:49 pm

    Hi all,
Have a Mark 2 escort (1968-74) rally car to sign for the St. Paddy’s Day Parade, Would any of you other ‘Saints’ happen to have an outline.
Typical, a good customer arrives two days before looking for a full rally car done. I HATE RALLY CARS!

Actually Brian, thinking about it, I reckon it’s a trick question

From memory, because I’m not retentive retentive enough to want to go and check, I think that 1968 to 1974 were the Mark 1 dates, with the Mark 2 coming out somewhere about P registration.

We’ll have to ask Pete. He was around when Henry Ford was a lad so he might know. 😀

I think you might be right about the dates John, imagine a rally man not knowing the correct dates, I did ask him if he was sure, as even a youngster like me can remember the advent of the Mark 2.
Im still looking the outline btw
    thanks.

John, it was the dates that made me think the one I had posted was the right one. It’s listed as 68-74 in our book, thought we may have made a mistake.

Nothing much on the Mk 2 though I am afraid Harry.

I’m pretty sure the MK2 didn’t come out until about 1974. The Escort was only introduced around 1968 anyway (it replaced the Anglia). When I looked at Harrys link for the Mark 2 Escort I decided I must be wrong – but now come to think of it I’m Pretty sure the Mk2 didn’t arrive until the mid 1970’s. A friend of mine had an H reg. Escort (1970) and it was definately a MK1. 1969 was when the world cup rally was staged and the twin cam escort that was produced after wards was based on the Mk1 bodyshell 😮

    (Am I sad or what? 😳 )

The MK ll prototype rolled off the track in late 74 and were produced between 1975 & 1980

    Mk.I (1968 – 1975)
    Mk.II (1975 – 1980)
    Mk.III (1980 – 1986)
    Mk.IV (1986 – 1992)
    Mk.V (1990 – 1993)
    Mk.VI (1994 – 1996)
    Mk.VII (1995 – 2000)

    Cheryl 😮 😀

    Phill,

Wasn’t the World Cup Rally held in 1970, to coincide with Mexico? Certainly, as you say, the Escort Mexico was a Mark 1 bodyshell.

The London to Sydney was held in 1968 and won by, of all things, an Austin 1800 Land Crab.
