Magnetic signs on vans, help needed?
Posted by Mark Johnston on December 13, 2022 at 8:53 pmHi gang.
i have a couple of questions i am hoping you can help me with about magnetic signs on vans.
1 how do you price them?
2 what limits do you give the customer on how they should be used and stored?i think our approach on these has been wrong in the past and we have a customer wanting a good few so i would like to get it right. so any help would be brill. ๐ค

Pricing.
i just work out how much magnetic i will use and double the cost.
i then work out what i want to charge for the graphics and add them both together to get my total.Warranty.
i give none. all it takes for these to blow off a van is for the customer not to keep them flat, and off they blow!
I tell them they must be kept flat when not in use. stick them to a filing cabinet or whatever. it is their problem. all you can advise is to keep them flat.-
that pricing sounds straight forward enough mate. i will do that!
i am with you on the warranty. how can we really be liable for it not being fitted correctly or blowing off? ๐คจ

If they’re going to be on the vehicles for a long time then let them know that they need to remove them periodically, say every week or so, to clean mag and vehicle and re fit the mags, after making sure both vehicle and mags are bone dry. If this isn’t done then they might be impossible to remove after a few months as they seem to stick fast.

wow! i have never heard of that, do you mean sticks like vinyl after a while? ๐ฎ

Not sticking in quite the same way as vinyl but probably not far off. After being on a customers van for 3 years or so without ever being removed, they were almost impossible to get off, just breaking off in very small bits at a time. Not sure what caused it but might be down to dirt creeping in between mag and van and setting solid.
I since had a read though an A4 bit of paper that came with my roll of mag and it clearly states that they should be removed periodically etc.
