You lost me macky,
you printed this out or cut it out after blending in CS please?
-
Hi Andrew
Just did the artwork in Photoshop, not an application I’ve used in anger before. Took me a little time to get used to the GUI and features but I’m really into it now.
It’s just a regular digi print, flood coated onto magnetic sheet and then trimmed to fit into the recess.
Cheers

One day I’m going to floodcoat my own digiprints 🙁
Nice piece by the way.
Who do you use for your mag supplier please?
-
From memory we’ve bought from a few people – I do tend to spot price buy on this product whereas for most other things I’ll stick with my core suppliers.
I’ve used Cherwell but next time I’m going to try buying direct from Arnold Magnetic, I’ve seen their ads on a few ocassions and think they are less than a £5 per metre for a full roll of 620mm * 0.85mm. (but could be wrong on that you will need to check)
Cheers

There are a few companies doing magnetic for keen prices now. I certainly won’t be getting any more from hexis at £9/m!!

Bravo Macky!
What a superb job.
That’s the best set of mags I’ve seen.
Did you cut the magnetics by hand?
Also did you use the panel outline for the cut line for the magnetic (ie did you select the panel, create a small inline, and use that to cut the mags?).
A tutorial on the "flying" trail effect on the playing cards would be good.
Also – how much were they – I’m guessing around £160 or am I too cheap again.
Cheers

Hi Joe
Thanks for the kind comment.
Made sure i did the rectangular print large enough to bleed beyond the panel, flood coated the magnetic. Then just stuck some wallpaper across the panel, pushed it into the recesses and drew into the corners with a pen, hand drew a slightly smaller inline, cut it out with scissors and traced round this onto the mag sheet, then cut the mag sheet with a good pair of scissors. Just a case of turning over the paper stencil for the mirror panel shape on the other side. The paper template is now stored away with all the others I’ve done.
The panel shapes on the Impact CD are fairly close but not accurate enough for inlining and using that as a guide. They are accurate enough when working out print size with bleed.
I had to design a lot of artwork for him for other products, including the aces high logo, but after stripping out the artwork charges I’d say add another £75-£100 on top of your price?
If I get time I’ll post something about the Photoshop bit.
Cheers
