  • MacSign – anybody use it?

    If anybody uses Macsign I would appreciate knowing how you get on with it.

    I want it purely to run a plotter and cut vinyl with, not to generate artwork in the first place, so that’s the aspect I’m most interested in. How easy is it to use etc.

    Also, is there anyone in this country flogging it, or do I have to go to the Italian manufacturer?

    Thanks.

    We use macsign as the macsign cut was free with our summa.

    Later updated to next level (macsign lite)

    We create all the artwork in FH and export as .ai to cut with macsign.

    It’s very easy, however it’s also limited as it hasn’t got:

    * Auto-Trap or trap control
    * Auto Weld
    * Easy Weed
    * Convert Strokes to Outlines (it just ignores the outlines)

    We got also flexicut for mac and it’ better.

    You should also check SignCut X2

    You can d/l a free trial

    Thanks for that.

    We create all artwork in Illustrator so we would only need MacSign Lite.

    Auto Trap. What’s that?

    Auto Weld. We’d do welding in Illustrator anyway.

    Easy Weed. Well, our current software does do that, but I think it’s a feature that sounds better in theory than it does in practice. I base that judgement on the fact that it never gets used here.

    Strokes to outlines. Same as our existing software, so not a problem.

    I tried FlexiCut some years ago but it was far too complicated for inexperienced staff. It took much too long to train them and it was too easy for them to make a mistake.

    I recently downloaded the SignCut X2 demo. The trouble with that is that you can only buy the whole programme, with all the artwork features, which I don’t want. For some of my staff to have the ability to modify a file by accident would be a disaster.

    In my case, the simpler the better. All it has to do is to load an Illustrator file, be able to re-size it by dimension or percentage, rotate to avoid vinyl waste, separate the colours, and specify the quantity. Anything else is an unnecessary complication.

    MacSign Lite sounds like the closest to my ideal. I can’t find anywhere to get a trial version so I think I will have to buy one copy to start with and give it a try.

    trapping is used when joining two colors.

    You can ask them for a demo, their page is:
