Lorry Cab Stripes help required
Hi All,
I have a customer who would like me to either replicate or do something similar to these stripes on a very similar lorry cab.
Not something I’ve had cause to do in the past & I can’t seem to find any suitable stripes that would fit despite trawling through the many vector graphic books I have & doing extensive interweb searches on vector sites. Maybe I’m just not searching for the right thing (Lorry cab vector graphics/decals/stripes etc)?
Does anyone know if there is a particular place this type of vector graphic can be got from? I’m not averse to having to tweak them to fit if required but would rather avoid having to design them completely from scratch if I can.

Do you have a square on picture of the side of the cab and one for the front?

Hi Rob, Unfortunately not for the DAF with the graphics otherwise I’d just trace them. That was just the pic the customer sent me. I might possibly be able to ask where he saw it, It’s definitely not one of his so I presume he just snapped it himself or got it from Google.

I think with this picture you can get a good idea of what they are looking for. i would go ahead with drawing up your own visual making sure you keep it as simple as possible. None of these graphics look like they really follow the line of the cab which is the biggest problem making them mm perfect.

You’ll find this really simple to do just with a metre ruler, a couple of wrap magnets & your phone camera Miles. Stand back & take a side on picture with the ruler attached with the magnets. Import the photo into your design software (I also photoshop the ruler out because it kills me to present it to the client) then mock up your version of the design & print or cut your stripes. This kit used less than 2 metres of 54” material. We do quite a few fleets like this. First image is the rendering sent to the client & the second one is the actual install, printed in sections to suit the material you’re using & fitted like a jigsaw puzzle with a slight overlap at the panel edges for trimming. They turned out really good Kevin. We’ve guys beside use in the industrial estate who strip and rebuild lorries for sale in 3rd world countries. They’ve our heads demented replicating graphics!

Would they be structural load bearing graphics then David?

@David-Stevenson we had/have a customer who does similar.
They dropped off an old Transit out of the blue, thinking they could use our yard for storage of their uninsured, untaxed, MOT failure of a van, whilst we signed it up.
By the time we’d got round to doing it, the van wouldn’t start, so we fitted the graphics where it was, and said nothing, the fun and games they had trying to get it started 😂They’d done the same with HGV’s too, they’d turn up, then someone would appear and start painting the wheels in our yard getting paint everywhere.
Utter death traps they were shipping out to Africa. Emissions weren’t low enough for our cities, but they’d happily ship it over there, kind of makes a mockery of the whole environmental argument.

Don’t even go there with the painting wheels. Was in their unit one day fitting when a guy came over with a spray gun. Sprayed on primer to the 6 wheels then came back straight after and sprayed them silver before the primer had even time to dry. The best part was when he painted the tyres with black paint to hide the overspray. 6 wheels completed in 15 minutes!!!

Thanks Kevin, I’m actually familiar with using that process for vans & know it works very well & actually made myself a magnetic ruler specifically for that purpose.
I’ve actually managed to get hold of the dealer that is selling that lorry this evening & they’re going to email me some pics in the morning of the side of the lorry cab head on, so hopefully I should be able to trace them & then just tweak them to fit my customers cab which I have good pics & dimensions of.
The issue was trying to get better pics of those particular graphics which he had wanted.
That’s a great job on yours. That customer rendering looks incredibly realistic & accurate!

That looks properly mint!! Just out of interst Kevin, do you install wet or dry? I did similar on a recent project wet and it went flawlessy BUT i tried to do a second truck dry and it looked a right mess…😡
