  • looking for vinyl Stock and Sourcing please?

Hi, im fairly new to the sign game, and the time has come to sort out my vinyl stock! im after some advice on vinyl prices and stocks to keep, i realise this maybe a ‘how long is a piece of string’ type question but im just after a rough idea. Hopefully some with tried and tested ways of stock handling can advise!!

I have looked at few suppliers and some i have found have very good prices but only on their standard roll lengths 10,25,50, etc.
I currently pay around the £2.70 mark for 1-50 metres (any length) for what i class as my ‘standard vinyl’ (5-7 yr). (610mm plain)

What does everyone else use and how much do you pay? Also do others tend to use 5-7yr on all vehicles and signage or do you use the 4-5 yr vinyl?

As for stock holding as i mentioned previously i have found if you buy a standard length roll you can get 5-7yr for £1.50 a metre. If i have a job requiring 4 metres i tend to order 5, but i pay £2.70 a metre, was just wondering if anyone with few years experience has found this to be the wrong way to do it and its better to buy a standard roll at £1.50/m and have excess vinyl for the job. My concern is ending up with 1 and 2 metre lengths that never get used!!!!

Anyway apologies for the ramble i realise this post is several questions!! 🙄

One last thing im looking at getting some magnetic sheeting my current best price is £13.50 a metre at 610mm, i thought this was a bit expensive!!! is this the going rate?

    Thanks

    Gareth

I very rarely buy less than 25 metres of a colour. Most of the time I buy in 50 metre rolls.

If I only need a few metres of a certain colour, I still buy at least half a roll. But I make sure that if the customer wants a certain colour they pay for it. That way the rest of the roll is paid for and all profit.

What I do, is to make up a colour swatch of all the usual colours I stock. Show them this swatch, saying ” if you don`t see a colour you like, I can show you another colour swatch, but they will cost you more money.

Like you said, you buy 5 metres, use 3. Get left with 2. Sods law, when you require that colour again, you`ll need 3 metres, or because there is only 2 metres floating around your work shop, it`ll be creased/damaged, and it`ll end up being thrown away.

Join the board, and get discounts from europoint, same price wether you buy 5 metres or 50.. you`ll get your money back in no time.

I am like you, fairly new to all this. I have found Europoint to be one of the best all round suppliers and its mostly Oracal vinyl, regarded by most on this site as the best all round vinyl.

They give a little discount if you let them know you are amember of UKSB.

Magnetic is approx £9.50 per mtr and can be bought by the metre, not in 10 mtrs like some other suppliers
