Looking for Fluorescent Blue vinyl
Posted by Warren Beard on November 9, 2010 at 4:26 pmHI All
I need some fluorescent blue vinyl which is a similar colour to Metamark’s paint mask blue colour 😕
Preferably from a range that William Smith sells as I need to place an order with them so would like to order at same time.
not asking much am I? 🙄 :lol1:

Hi Dan
Strange they asked for that, it’s called Grafitack Fluorescent Series Vinyl 😕
only comes in yellow, green, orange and red.

It’s Monomeric and I think it’s only for indoors but not sure, best to ask them mate.

Hexis do a cast but it also says promotional cast so presume it’s short term stuff.
I still can’t find a matte blue though 😕 😥
-
have you tried starex vinyls? im pretty sure they do a matte blue! i’ll have a look at the colour chart and come back to you!
-
we often use fluorescent pretty often and the fluorescent blue has been discontinued from various brands. the closest i have found to any fluorescent blues i have used in the past is actually from the Oracal 551 series, code 086 Brilliant Blue.

Warren, the blue is crap in every range/brand i have tried mate. probably the reason the blue is discontinued from most of them.
we bought in blue twice, both occasion’s the oracal i gave ref for was on our racks already and they were almost the exact same. difference being the oracal 551 was a better finish and had better adhesion and application properties.
we normally buy 2 to 3 full rolls 1230 wide of all the flourescent colours we can get at one time and the blue is always the naff one of the bunch. combined with the others though it does look good. just doesnt pop like the rest!ill check the hexis stuff too…
i have just received an email as i type this and need about 600 metres of flourescent… :lol1: 🙄 -
Nice order Rob 🙄
Thanks guys, will check with them Dan otherwise will have to tell the customer she needs to chose a regular blue matte vinyl.
cheers

Hi warren,
sorry mate they too have dropped the flouro blue vinyl! the dcum are matt monomerics, they do have a brilliant blue 6686M megarex matte, but it is not neon in colour like the others!goodluck!

meant to add warren, fluorescent aren’t the cheapest vinyls… but the oracal alternative is priced just the same as regular 551. so probably about half the price. also… i could be wrong here, but i think the full 551 series comes in matt finish also.
to through a spanner in my works, this email i have just had is asking for alternative fluorescent colours.
They want Pantone Matched fluorescent???i get pantone matched vinyl from time to time but anyone heard if it in day-glo flourescent? 🙄 im thinking not!
-
cheers Rob, I have always been under the impression the 551 only came in gloss, maybe I will ask as I have the fan swatch but it’s only gloss. I like my Metamark fan swatch as it has everything in one 😉
-
Yes we discontinued our blue many moons ago, and also from a cast to monomeric. Because of the pigmentation we only recommend it for indoor use or outdoor use for a limited time (1 summer) due to it fading.
Sorry we cant help you with the blue, we can with the other colours though! 🙂

Hi Warren, Dan is right and the supplier is based in Luton.
Do a search for X-film on google will keep you occupied for hours!01582 453308
great blues on their range but mainly translucent

Warren don’t know if this helps but Hexis do a premium cast and a promotional cast in the blue (more satin than mat)
-
Hexis also do a cast version in all colours. I use this stuff quite alot and is nice, thin & conformable.

KPMF manufacture a gloss cast fluorescent blue.
KPMF the manufacturer (based in South Wales) is still in existence. It was KPMF Direct (not connected to KPMF itself) that went out of business.
The code is K74061. There are now 3 distributors for KPMF materials in the UK.
GB and NI except regions below – MDP Supplies
Manchester and Yorkshire Only – ATC
Wales – SignserveDetails at http://www.kpmf.com
-
Did you ever have any success tracking the blue down Warren?
-
Hi Neil
No mate but didn’t follow up on the last few recommendations above as the client couldn’t wait so ended up using metamark 7series cyan in gloss as it was the brightest we could find.
Cheers

various manufacturers have discontinued the blue.
every so often we buy in a lot of flourescent for a specific customer.
blue has always been an issue. in the end, i spotted that an off the shelf blue by oracal was almost the same as the flourescent/day-glow colours we had already been buying in. so i now just use the oracal 551 colour as the blue.to be honest though, i never really liked the blue, was nothing in comparison to the flourescent orange, green, pink, red, yellow…
just be careful where they are being used and the "life" of them. most are only 6 months to a year life. but there are longer life films available, but cost more as you would expect.

I’ll just get in nice oracal vinyls then. We’re going to redo the works van to help promote a new website and thought the logo in fluorescent blue and yellow would be a really nice touch. Back to the drawing board…..
