Can anybody offer some advice regarding remaval of vinyl. I have a couple of vans to letter that have lettering on them, I have removed lettering before, heat gun, little chizler but found it to be a slow process. I have a brochure from Jag Sign Supplies and they do a piece of kit called a MBX vinyl and glue remover, but at £265 + vat it seems a bit steep. Just wondering if any of you experience guy’s had an easier way.

    Thanks in advance

    Bob 😀

The best way I have found to do this is to use a wall paper stripper. This is like a kettle that produces steam. Steve Broughton first suggested this on this very forum, and I’ve been doing it this way ever since.

You can buy a cheap wall paper stripper from Argos for about £20.

mbx is a great machine but a bit over priced i think. its only any use for text and stripes upto about 6inch high. works on any sort though, including reflectives.

I now use a steam wall paper striper as well. just be carefull on plastic panels.

On a smart car i used it on teh paint went a tad funny on the door panel on one side, may not have been the steam but it may have been, not sure the only thing i can think of is it’s a platic car.

apart from that it’s a very quick and clean way of striping vinyl.

Best advice I can offer: pay someone else to do it!! 😮 Otherwise a wallpaper stripper is a good option.

I strip buses with them all the time, saves heaps of time and energy.

Removing vinyl is always a pain in the neck, I use a heat gun, then wreck my fingernails picking the lettering off and finally jizer to remove the glue, but test a small bit of paintwork first to make sure the Jizer doesnt affect it.

We have been quite lucky so far …… in the last three years we have only had 4 or 5 vehicles to remove the graphics from ….. customers usually end up removing it themselves once we tell them its an extra charge. …… You watch now Ive said that we will get loads in to do 😮 Just as most others here do, we use a heat gun or wallpaper steamer.

    Hi
As everyone says there is no easy way to remove vinyl.
Before i started my sign company i had a cleaning company for 8 years
in this time i removed a lot of graphics from vehicles and tried all sorts of ways but the best way i found was with a heat gun then remove the excess glue with a product call “TAR & GLUE” which is available from most Cleaning Material Suppliers. If you can’t find this product let me know and iwill post my suppliers details.

    Cheers
    Kenny
