Went up in a helicopter couple of weeks ago over good old London town.

It was a crystal clear day, so thought I would share a few snaps.

The first are of the new Olympics site, this is whats left of Stratford 😮
The dark area in the third picture is where the new stadium is to be.

The very last pic of the plane. I was waiting for the helicopter while on the phone and standing in between the keep clear lines, after a few minutes I looked round to see the pilot of this plane waving franticly for me to get out of the way so he could turn the plane round.

After parking a few feet away the guy gets out, none other than Mr Alan Sugar who lives just round the corner from the airfield. I was waiting for him to have a go at me :D……..

I noticed the A board advertising London sightseeing Tours next to Mr. Sugars plane.

Is this how he finances his football team

excellent pictures mate… nice one. wouldnt catch me up in a copter though. planes are bad enough. 😕 i remember when i was young, my dad took my brother up in one when we were at Blackpool. it was his mates helicopter and he hadn’t seen him in years. anyway, i couldn’t go due to there not being any room. so my dad and my younger brother went. they came back and he said bring Robert the next day, but we never made it. 4 days later he crashed it and died. 😕 (poor guy)

anyway… I’m in London fitting signs within the next week or so… hope the weather is good because i have a big sign to fit up high from a cherry picker. 😕

    Whereabouts in London Rob?

I can see the ‘Gerkhin’ from the top of our Road
They’re already building something else quite close which will partially block the view from where I am

Can’t you try and put a stop on it John, explaining it’s obstructing your view 😀

I did a job last year right next to the Girkin, it’s an amazing building.

Rob: that’s tragic about your dad’s mate, thing with helicopters is if they do crash you’ve had it, I would say.

This was the first time I’ve been in one and can’t wait to go back up.

I’ve been inside the Gerkhin buliding twice to see customers (my old career 😉 ) and it is not so impressive on the inside….. only the view is good but even that is obstructed slightly, the outside is actually like a shell and is not the actual walls of the offices so there is like a meter gap between the office walls/windows and the outside shell, I really did expect more but it is a great sight from outside which is much more important.

just thought I would share 😉

One of my dreams is to go in a helicopter, one day…… one day :giggle:

    Lovely pictures. I am envious.
Even though I am a coward I would have really enjoyed getting to go up in a helicopter.
I got to see more of the Tower from this topic than the day I was actually standing beside it!
(got there too late in the day for tours)
I’d sooner go over London this way than try to drive there.

definitely martin… i guess they just fall like a stone. i don’t remember the cause but something tells me it was bad weather that led to the crash. i think he was part of the lifeguard support for Blackpool, obviously the air response section…

John, i think its Croyden that ill be fitting the signs mate.

This is the helicopter crash of a fellow Letterhead, Russ Mowry:

He’s a good man, and an excellent hand-painter.

    Wow that was scary Jill
    How did he survive that?

Good to hear he’s doing fine

Rob: Croyden is South London – a good hour and a half or more away from me

I understand there’s a lot of investment in town building going on there

    John,
Russ was also a chopper pilot in Vietnam.
He just knows his stuff is all.
Glad he is still with us.
    Love….Jill
