The white area between the e and x. I had never seen it before either – always thought it just looked as if it should be spaced out better.

Good grief I’ve never noticed that before 😮 It’s like one of those optical illusions, once you know it’s there you can’t see anything else.

yes I see it now ,and like Martin says can’t see anything else now 😮 I wonder if the general public get it ?

cant find it just now, but the old national express also had an arrow, some saw it, some didnt

Your kidding? I’ve thought the incorporation of the arrow was very clever. It was the first thing I saw when I got a fedex delivery a while back…
It would have cost a fortune though. Not as good as the London Olympic logo tho 🙄

This is a typical example of how negative space is as important to a sign as is the content.
I would put money on it that this was intentional.
This is why sometimes a sign has a "wrong feel" about it.
Subconsciously the viewer is seeing some awkward negative space between copy.
