Logo design
Posted by Stephen Ingham on June 4, 2009 at 11:57 amHi all, can someone give me a bit of help please?
I have been asked to create a logo for a HGV repair business, but the customer hasnt really give me anything to go on as a starting point.
So what i really need are some suggestions on what information i need to gather from the customer to enable me to begin creating a few draft ideas to present too him and then hopefully work with him from there?
Any help or advice is much appreciated
Cheers

I always ask for a letterhead, as it’s usually got a lot of info you can pull off it to start with. i.e. Font and Colour’s
Then ask what soft of logo they want.
*Simple text with hgv in the background?
*Some sort of custom shape logo? What do they want the logo to do….
* Just give the name of the business?
* Or name and description/tag line?
(Like "Example Repair Company – Keeping your fleet mobile")Just any thing you think you need to ask to get the job done.
-
I also ask them to provide examoples of what they like…other logos etc.

I’d help but I don’t know what HGV repair is!

Well, I am no master of truck lettering.
But over here it has evolved to a real art.
You could either go a cartoonical route with a pic of a similar truck, or a classy version.
It really all depends on the color of the truck, the style the client wishes to portray, etc.
I would probably emphasize the JMR part so that the name stands out the most. If you see a big old tow truck you know what services they offer. -
very nice again Jill…
what’s the name of the script you’ve used in the bottom one?….I like that
-
Hi, thanks for that Jill, i really like those what fonts have you used?
Cheers

The scripts are both new ones from Chuck Borges. Top is Louisiana, bottom is Alpine.
The top initials are from a beta font I have by art & signfonts, AS Truckin’.
The bottom initials are Metal from Sign DNA.
"Limited" is Century Gothic. -
Thanks but I really am no master at truck lettering.
