  • Light box PANELS Bowed inwards

    Hi

Has anyone had the same problem as me? I bought and fitted a dualcase lightbox 5mtr x 1mr with panels from NOVA Aluminium, about 8 months later the panels start to bend inwards quite severly. Panels are still on hanging strips, this also happened to a box from them I fitted 2 years ago. Has anyone else had this problem before?

are they full acrylic panels, or fret cut ACM

Is it south facing, is it a mainly dark or light colour of face,

did you vent the box to allow heat to escape from the transformers/ gear trays

How many gear trays/tubes are there,

does the face feel warm when illuminated for a while?

sorry for so many questions but there is a lot of things that need taken into account with illuminated signage, not just sticking it up on a wall.

If the box is heating on the inside the difference on heat between the two surfaces will cause the panel to bow inwards, 1 meter is a fairly deep face, so ideally would have had some clear polished edged strengtheners glued on the back to give it more rigidity. If it’s not heat from the trays , then it is the sun that is causing it.

easiest way to demonstrate what is happening, is take a small piece of acrylic and heat it on one side with a heat gun, and you will see it beginning to curve.

I’ve seen this where the panels are too large vertically for the box and as they expand they distort due to pressing against the box edges.
Also possible if the acrylic is too tight in the slots and it can’t move freely.
