letters not sticking to app tape
Posted by David Hammond on December 12, 2012 at 10:18 pmI bought some R Tape medium tack app tape, and it seems bloody awful compared to the oracal tape.
Trouble is RHG don’t slit rolls of oracal down so works out more expensive.
I apply the tape, rub down by hand to smooth it down, then squeegee over the text, but it just doesn’t lift them!
Its bloody annoying and just takes longer.
Maybe I should just try high tack tape?

Hi David,
it might sound daft but, you are laying the vinyl face down and peeling the backing off", rather than backing paper down and "lifting the app paper?
cheers,

Not sure i follow on RHG not slitting tape mate?
We buy all our application tape in cut to whatever size we need. they have them in all sorts of sizes "off the shelf". -
Either way hugh.. Might be the cold or damp in the air in the unit, stops it sticking fully.
Rob RHG sell oracal app tape in off the shelf widths, but you can buy Rtape at 1220 width and slit down to size, i’m sure its cheaper.
I’m assuming high tack may be better.

dunno what the answer is then David,
re oracle paper, I buy it in 615 rolls, pretty certain I’ve had a log slit before – maybe that was when it was europoint display!
-
we buy in anything from .5 inch to 48inch wide rolls david.
i could be wrong but im sure its always high-tack we buy.
RHG have them all pre-cut to size in-house. so ide imagine thats a cheaper option.
also, we used to buy logs and get them slit to our sizes from another supplier but it was always a pain as we had to work out what sizes we need most and try get them from the master roll width. now its just buy in as much or as little of each size. -
hi all,i bought a 1220 roll of Rtape med tack, had it cut down, yes it was good value on the day but it has performed just as david has described(bloody awful) i dont think the way we stored it or the way weve used it is wrong.(open to correction on that!!!)my question is ,you know what you order and what the invoice/delivery note says but how can you be sure what tack it is??its been said on here lately theres markings/codes on the cores??,we have 3 makes in stock and i cant see any markings on any of them. 🙁
cheers john 😀 😀

Hi-tack only for R-tape.
Works great…the low & medium are only any good for very large surface areas eg. 4′ high letters.
Wm Smith also slit FOC. Been buying R-tape hi-tack conform (4075RLA) off them for years…won’t use anything else frankly.
Lifts 3M 50 series, 80 series, Ritrama 400 series, Mac 9800, etch, digi-print all perfectly.

quote Reza Faezi:We have been using R-tape for years (used with Oracle vinyl) never had any problems, apart from when trying use it with avery vinyl, dont know why but it just would not stick!!!
maybe this explains some of our problems as its mostly avery 500/600 we use.

Possibly John, i think perferct tear works with Avery (but not so well with Oracle) Cant be 100% sure though as its been a long time since we used it
-
David, i have had the very same trouble with the R Tape medium tape recently too, its very annoying, very slow!
are you using clear or paper, i switched to the paper application tape and am getting on much better with that, was also wondering myself was it the cold weather? -
I think it may be due to the cold weather or temperate where it is stored.
I had a roll of paper app tape which was left for around a year with no use in a cold room, when it was used it hardly stuck to anything!
