Led Lit letters in extream coastal area
Hi All Happy Friday
Could any one who is coastal based area or any one who knows the answer advise on the best material combinations for LED halo letters on a sea front location. I am concerned about corrosion and metals reacting with each other when exposed to a salt water environment.
We are central London so this is not normally something we worry about but I’m doing a love job for Friend in Cornwall.
The sign spec would normally be descaled stainless with painted screws fitted to L shaped tabs on clear Back trays ( standard stuff ) But as this is fitted on to cream painted cladded cedar wood it wood look horid if rust streaks started to run down the fascia.
Your Wisdom on this matter is appreciated.

Ask for 316 stainless steel letters and you should be OK, thats what we have to use over here as most Most major cities are costal.
I’ve found Sloan LEDS to hold up well, I ‘ve had others go within weeks!!
Try Applelec, they do most of ours

Can 316 be powder coated. -
anything can be powder coated, if the face is descaled/ rough enough for it to stick to 😀

I priced a job for a restaurant in Worthing seafront, they wanted all singing all dancing with led lit, 3pc facia etc. the letters were to be marine grade stainless as they’d get a direct battering..
the customer went elsewhere and it looks like they used a cheap chrome finish of some kind, with no led backlight!!! am I bitter? nooo!! much!
either way, I think it was ashby who priced me the letters – marine stainless was the only recommendation for salt spray"
