Just a quick heads up to everyone- I am being plagued by numpties trying to get me to switch phone providers.

This morning I have had a rep from a “wholesale” phone supplier- their name begins with U and ends in VERSAL.

If you see one of their reps tell em to get lost- despite telling the bloke I wasn’t going to sign up for anything today I’ve had him stuck here all morning- this culminated in a “if you’ll just sign here” which I told him no way mate I’m not doing it.

Next step is to call his office and to be given the hard sell by his “boss”. I might have been interested at a later date in switching to cheaper telecom suppliers but after the pressure selling and hassle this morning I’m staying with BT- I don’t mind paying a bit more with BT- at least I don’t get pestered and pushed into signing up for stuff I haven’t had time to look at properly.

I’m putting up a notice outside this PM telling all reps not related to our industry to keep away.

    Anyway- end of rant 😀

I’d have punched him in the face. Man, I hate sales reps – especially…….well all of them really.

Sales reps are my pet hate, I appreciate that they have a job to do and I do feel a little sorry for them but if you say no then they should leave you alone. There was a discussion on telesales the other day and we were going over annoying people ringing from India and calling themselves daft names, Ive had Bruce and now, just yesterday, I had Brian calling. I cant wait to see what the next guy will be called :lol1:

We have since last year a law in the states designed to cut down on some of that, but there’s still abuses, and some are almost daring you to do something about it, ’cause most know you’ll bitch a bit and nothing more. I always ask for the name and address of the caller’s company before they get well into their pitch. I won’t let them continue until they give it. As soon as they give it I hang up and launch a letter. If it’s a fake, the letter comes back, and that is open-and-shut fraud. If they hang up so much the better. The number of such calls has been pretty significantly reduced. Sometimes I get apologetic letters, sometimes nothing, but I always feel better. And that IS the point, isn’t it? 😀

I am advertising in Motorcycle News and keep getting calls from canvassers trying to get me to advertise with them instead.

The thing is that I have five bikes in there this week and I have had one silly bitch ring me five times with the same sales pitch. Her number came up on caller id so I knew who it was before I answered and on the last call the conversation goes something like this…..

    Ring ring
    ME: Hello Natalie.
HER: How did you know my name?
ME: Because you have called me before.
HER: No I haven’t. This is the first time
    ME: No it isn’t.
HER: Yes it is. We don’t make repeat calls.
ME: Yes you do. How else would I know your name before you spoke?

She is obviously confused and hangs up on me.

I can’t wait for next week.

Telecom sales people tend to be the worst…. and they have diffculty understanding the word ‘no’.
I have registered with the Telephone Preference Agency which has cut down on the calls, but for anyone who does call I mention I’m listed with TPA and they panic, apologise and hang up.

But the problem I’m having right now is not calls but emails! Millions of them every single day! Well what information I’m being offered to spice up my spare time is… well… shocking to say the least! 😳 And I’m NOT easily shocked!

We get over 400 spam emails a day now, and have a little program called in boxer http://www.inboxer.com works a treat, puts all the spam in a separate folder.

With regard to the telephone calls, I always get annoyed with the ones who hang up on me, before I get the chance to hang up on them, and every time they withhold their number!

If anyone is interested you can register at http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/.

This is the Telephone Preference Service and you can stop sales telephone calls. Works a treat, used to be bombarded with them but hardly get any now.

    Cheers

We suffer from calls make by recorded messages… they keep telling me we’ve won a holiday or whatever. Hanging up doesn’t seem to have the desired effect on these!

Anyone else plagued in this way..?

What really riled me was when I had a call like this and told him I was not interested.

“I’m not wasting any more of my time with you then” he said and promptly hung up on me……. before I had a chance to hang up on him.

I was fuming – I couldn’t even phone him back to hang up on him because his number was with-held.

I sulked all day after that one 🙁

With regard to the ‘if you sign here today mate’ bit, whenever we used to get double glazing/ kitchen etc quotes, the first thing I would say to the salesman at the door before he came in would be something along the lines of…

” You are here today to give me a quote, you have one hour in which to do that. Don’t expect an agreement today as you will not get one. Don’t pretend to phone your boss to get a special offer based on an argeement today. After an hour you will give me a quote, valid for at least 90 days and you will leave. If you agree to my conditions you may enter, if not then thankyou for your time and bugger off”

    Usually done the trick. 😀

TPS, telephone preference service. Google it

I had two phone numbers at home, one is registered and the other isn’t .

The TPS number only gets rung maybe once a fortnight, the other number rings every 2-3 days.

also fax preference service… i heard someone said that it did wipe out the junk faxes.

Iam also with TPS and it works really well, as for FPS, this has totally wiped out all junk faxes, well nearly all in the 18 months we have been registerd we have only received one junk fax.

    It’s a great service and it’s free.

I got rid of all my junk faxes by changing my number to an 0871 number, it cost them 5p per sheet to send a fax to me :lol1:
