lazer print on tee’s is it a special ink or paper
Posted by Tracey Vaughan on June 27, 2008 at 8:50 pma couple of times now reading through articles i keep hearing laser print again i am very new to this i was told sub was the way to go, so if i was to buy i laser printer, i can use just a special paper or do i need special ink as well, and can i use this instead of sub is that right.
is the quality good enough for resell i really don’t want to go screen print route as cost etc. and it’s also taking me long enough to get this sorted.
thanks Tracey.Hugh Potter replied 15 years ago 10 Members · 24 Replies -

to lazer print on shirts you need special paper and a standard lazer printer, OKI is one of the best. Its nearly as durable as sublimation but not quiet, quality is great, BUT the area that is not printed on (paper) when pressed on a garment leaves a mark on the garment and will get dirty very quickly, we use it a lot for stag and hen shirts, were a picture is needed
Magic Touch seems to be the best paper Ive tried (ttc3.1)

Got any tips on using ttc3.1?

So long ago can’t really recall times/temp
Time I tried again TIA

190 degrees HEAVY pressure and quick hot peal, best with a swing head press too for evan pressure

don’t magic touch have special settings in the oki lasers? to my knowledge, the heat settings etc are different to a standard printer.
-
thanks for that slowly but surly getting there does anyone else have any thoughts on this really need to get firm advice before spending any more ££££££££££££££££!

No special settings, set it to heavy stock, prints no problem

I keep looking at this stuff as an alternative to dye sub but as Hugh mentioned I’m told that modified printers are necessary for TTC (something to do with a modified fuser unit and fuser engine settings). Someone I know bought a run of the mill laser printer from PC World and uses TTC with it but he has said the printer is now all "gunged up". Perhaps that’s why modifications are necessary?

I have been using OKI standard printers for 3 years with the magic touch paper, no problems with ttc 3.1

Hi All,
Be very careful which laser printer you use, about 4 years ago i tried the xpres laser paper through a minolta laser 2300DL which I was told would work. Well my £600 printer is now useless as it melted onto the fuser unit. It has something to do with the settings in the printer, i think it slows the print down to get loads of toner onto the sheet, but also it brings the heat down too! My settings weren’t quite right so it ended up and expensive mistake to make.Cheers John

great stuff will look at picking a cheap one first to try then once am semi OK will upgrade, after all got to watch the penny’s

I’d maybe look into it a bit more before parting with your hard earned Tracey. I’m going to do some more research on this. The potential sounds great but I don’t want to be lumbered with a faulty printer in no time if it all goes wrong.
I saw on Magic Touch website that some of the paper refers to being compatible with "oil less toner laser printers" whatever that means. Yet another thing to look into! Does this mean the likes of the £99 printer on special offer at Staples at the moment would be hopeless – even as an entry level into this method of printing?

we to had to replace our laser after a friend used it to print on to magic touch paper. it melted on to the hot thingy really hurt as the printer had only done 4 a4 sheets for us.
cheers mike 😕 -
when you say oki is their any particular size or model, i am looking at c3200 c3300 and c5600 would any of these be OK or is there a certain minimum size to look for
thanks 😀

the magic touch oki 5600n is not your standard off the shelf printer.
ok, mechanically it is, but the settings are all changed within the printer software (the stuff that’s actually inside the printer, not on your pc). as some have said, it alters speeds, temps, volume of toners, etc.
other than that, they use a std oki toner. not sure about compatible toners as i’m not prepared to risk it, have had loads of trouble in the past with compatible inkjet carts, too hit and miss, so there’s no way i’m chancing laser toners!

thanks for info ended up with a oki c5100 going to start playing on Monday with it if anyone has any, do’s or dont’s give us a shout thanks once again

Just to give a small bit of info, for OKI 5750 and most A4 printers, you have to use TMT ttc3.1 R and that "R" is very important as it means that the paper
is meant for short edge feeding. ie the top of the paper when in protrait mode. TMT say this is because of the way the paper texture runs and this stops the paper burning to the fuser.Rob

i take it the 5750 is the A3 printer? all the A4 printers use the std 3.1ttc, but you do have to check which way in it’s fed (as you probably know).

No the 5750 is a A4 printer, and TMT will tell you only paper with the "R" on the label is correct for short edge printing, I know as I have almost a full box of the other that cannot be used
Rob

my mistake, you’re correct! i looked at the box edge and it only says 3.1, however, on the lid is does indeed say 3.1R format on a seperate sticker.
