  • Laying a 3 meter by 0.5meter graphic

I’ve got a job to do inside a night club/bar which involves laying coloured stripes. I need to lay the main stripes in one go which is the above size.

Can anyone give me any tips on where I start from to squeegee the graphic ie middle – edge, edge to edge… Where I mask it etc…

I seem to recall rob doing a large graphic on a milk float which was masked right along the top and then (I think) worked from edge to edge…

    Any pointers…?

    hi mate…
that demo is still in the demo area if you want to check it out. basically thats exactly how you would do it.. well the way i would anyway…
you are basically using the hinge effect on a large scale. peal back 24 inches or so. make sure this 24 inches is perfectly straight. keep it tight and level and away you go… 😉

Yes but where do you start?

    I’ve got the following
    1. line the vinyl up with the backing still on
2.mask right along the top of the vinyl
3.peel back an edge 24″ at one side so the backing material is folded on itself.

Then what, surely you can’t align this straight by starting at one edge? or can you.

    Rob, please detail this more!!

    Cheers

not sure what you mean by this… backing tape.. yes cover the vinyl or it will stretch with the heat of your hands over the time it takes to apply.

tape it on.. or mask it… ? NO! well i didnt in demo but its possible if you prefer too…

yes.. Apply at beginning 24inches. After that have someone holding the vinyl taught.
If its is evenly pulled taught the vinyl’s doesn’t really have much option but to go level.
This doesn’t mean you don’t still hold it level with your marks…

Make a series of marks. Maybe every 24 inches. Apply first 24inches and then peal back another apply that and move on. Each time making sure your still level..
Expel the air by up & down motion, as this is the shortest route for air to escape.

Remember when applying dry, you must treat the vinyl pretty rough. Lifting and pulling I mean. If you try to ease this stuff off it will only stretch or cause creases..
If its not going down right… yank it in short sharp tugs! Nothing less!
