Hey all…. Searched the forums but didn’t find anything..
I’m doing a fire truck this week and want to layer SignGold on to a solid vinyl. It’d be two layers. Signgold being the lettering with a dark blue outline.
Also I have a design on the doors to do putting multiple colors (pieces) on top of the sign gold. Only two layers , just varied pieces.
Am I ok with layereing? Anything to consider?
Would I be better off cutting a knock out of the outline and overlapping onto the gold?
I used signgold once, but it was very small…. any toher application tips? Too expensive to waste any.

    Thanks..
    steve

If you lay SignGold onto another vinyl surely you are shortening the lifespan to that of the inferior vinyl? SignGold has a life of about 10 squillion years (14, I think) but if the adhesive on the other stuff gives out after 3 years the signgold is buggered. I’d put the outline on top of the gold. At least if it fails you can replace it without having to replace the good stuff. Only disadvantage of this is if you have to remove the gold at a later date, I would imagine it’s a bugger to get off.

Oh, and good luck. For flip’s sake get it right first time, otherwise you may have to sell your house to buy another metre.

    Thanks G…
That’s kinda what i was thinking. If you’d put the outline on top would you overlap at all?… how much?

If I do put the ouline underneath, i’d be using 8 year vinyl, but I had some instances where the 1st layer shrank and messed up the top layer…

I wouldn’t extend the outline beyond the gold cos it would leave a ridge. I’d sit it in top exactly the same overall size as the gold. So long as you are using a half decent vinyl that won’t shrink it should be OK. You could overlap by a bit if you wanted to be sure. This would also give you a bit of room for error, otherwise the method I suggest needs EXACT registration.
