Hi, does anybody print onto vinyl using a laser printer. If so how successful and durable is it ? I’m thinking of small runs of labels and domed labels.

    Hi,

Already been said – not durable, also laser toner isn’t particularly UV stable, the magenta fades very quickly.

But I guess for certain applications it is fine.

I am led to believe that you can “coverseal” printed vinyl (with heatpress), and this gives it the protective coating which makes it then suitable for outdoor use.
The Magic Touch sell laser vinyl and coverseal, so it might be worth contacting them. I keep meaning to request some samples from them, but have not yet got round to it. I would be very interested to know if it is as good as it they say!

I visited Themagictouch last year, they printed a placemat and I was surprised that the printable surface was actually paper bonded to the mat, however after they printed it by laser transfer it was then laminated with the coverseal. When I got it back home I put it to the test, firstly by standing a pan of boiling water on it, then pouring sme of the water on the surface and it stood up remarkaby well. The coverseal is quite pricey at about £1.50 per A3 sheet, I wonder if the roll laminate used in sign making would work as well.

    Cheers
