  • Large roadside signs, likely costs and suppliers

    Good evening

We had an inquiry and an initial site meeting this morning with a view to to quoting, amongst other things, for two large roadside signboards (subject to necessary permissions). These are ‘blue chip’ company signboards at the two entrances to an industrial/commercial estate advertising those companies leasing the estate (perhaps 8 on each and a high profile logo on the top).
Each signboard might be 3m wide by 4-6m high.

As a company we feel that we are not yet big enough to take the whole of this on so would be looking to a partnership with another suitable business who have the experience in such things, perhaps a suitable sign installation business.

Signs are to be in North East by the way.

It’s quotation stage but there is a high probabiility that the signs will go ahead

    Questions

Apologies if it seems I am seeking quotes, I am not, just information please; if there is however a suitable area of the subscription side of this site then could someone please tell me where to head.

Are there any suppliers that deal with signs of this size, obviously there are since most petrol station forecourts and out of town shopping centres have large totems approaching these sizes and could give us a very general guide price?

John, a lot of industrial estates use post and panel type sign systems, some more elaborate and more expensive than others.
A good starting point would be someone like Ashby who could give you most of the information you require.

Thank you for the quick reply Martin; of course you are right, Ashby is a very good starting point.
I think we are in a semi state of panic, trying to quickly get the information on signs we don’t normally deal with and that is numbing our thoughts a bit.

Sourcing the signs is one thing, erecting them another, seems like a civil engineering thing what with considering possible underground services etc

    Thanks again

John, there is a lot to consider with signage like this and yes it can be a bit daunting if you have never done anything like it before but most of it is common sense.
Ashby will not only give you prices for what you need but will help with stuff like wind loading, how deep you need to sink posts etc etc.

Is this on a public highway because if it is then there are other considerations you need to take in to account, one of the most important being your own insurance.
