    Hi all

I have to price up a job fr a local firm that want the attached logo on their wall at the size of 9′ X 8′

the main part is a big flower, it is 6′ round and has 18 petals

my main question is is there an other way of standing the big panel off the wall as there is a hell of a lot of locators involved there so a hell of a lot of holes to drill!!

    Cheers

If the blue dots are locators, i would say there are far too many anyway
You could space the big petal shape using split battens, two bits of wood cut full length at 45* then fix one to the back of petal and the other to wall, then just hooks together..

John, are you getting a trade supplier to manufacture the flower and text for you? If so then they should be able to tell you just how many locators would be required for a job like that.
I would have to agree with the other comment, if the blue dots are locators then there are far to many of them.

cheers guys, it will be 10mm foamex sprayed to the pantone colour, i was just concerned about the petals, the blue dots bit was because it was going to be in 5mm perspex and i thought it would need well supported but im liking the hanger idea Simon that would save alot of drilling

    Thanks

If all the petals were joined so it was in one big piece you would only need a few big locators and it would hold up fine, depends on how the final construction will be with all the elements.

If it’s done in 10mm foamex then the flower will have to be in more than one piece I think, not sure you can get 10mm foam wide enough to do it in one. Why the change of material and if you are changing the substrate what about using a composite which will reduce the weight and stand up better than the foam.

I would do it in pieces, the petals i would do in two halves with the center heart of the flower over the top in one, maybe router the edges to give it a little bit more shape, that way you can cover the joint of the petals and give it a bit of a 3d effect?

John, if you are going to do it in 10mm foamex just remember that foamex needs to be sealed before it is sprayed.

John, understand that but foamex needs to be sealed properly otherwise the paint will come off quite quickly, can’t remember what I’ve used in the past but still have some in the paint locker at the unit.

Wasn’t sure if your mate was aware it had to be sealed as it’s not the sort of material car sprayers normally deal with.

Martin i spray foamex with 2K car paint almost daily and have yet to have issues of it coming off, The edges of thicker foamex needs sealed to prevent absorption, but the main faces do not

Ian, if you do it all the timend haven’t had any issues then I have been wasting my time and money on the few jobs that I have done using painted foamex. I was told by the supplier that I would need to seal the whole board not just the edges so this is what I have always done. I expected the supplier to know best how silly of me :lol1:

Thanks for the info, next time I have one to do I can save myself some time and money.
