  • Lamination- hot or cold?

    Hi all,
I’m new to the wide-format inkjet scene (having used a PC60 for 2 years). I can use our VersaCamm SP300 quite well and have produced a few samples and even quite a large sign (for indoors). However although we are quite pleased with the durability of the ink up to a point, we do know that many things will need laminating. I have seen all kinds of laminators advertised- what do I need to go for considering we will want full width (700mm), should it be hot or cold? we are printing onto vinyl

    Thanks in advance

thanks Lynn, anyone got any recommendations on cold laminators (or even ones to avoid!) we won’t be using it loads so it doesn’t need to be anything fancy really

You do only need cold but if you find a laminator that does both, so much the better. I have a Hot / Cold with variable temp control, I have only ever used it cold execpt for one job in two years, altough I always put a small amount of heat into rollers 25 – 40 C just to soften film.
I would say more important is to go for the widest you can afford as you may only have a 700 m/m job now but you do not know what is round the corner.

    Regards

    Russell.

    Rob,

Don`t buy solely on price and make sure you get either an on-site demo, or go and see one of the laminators, you have shortlisted, in action.
