Just want to say "Hello"
Posted by The Disc Doctor on June 18, 2005 at 1:03 pmThought I’d make my first posting a big “Hello” to everyone.
I’ve spent the last month looking over the forum, and am suprised how much everyone one helps each other.
Due to family commitments I’m forced to work from home, and thought it would be a wise investment to be a “Gold” Member.
Look foward to leaving more posts in future.
Bye for now!!

Oops. I didn’t too much of an intro, didn’t want anyone to get too bored.
My name is Simon and I’ll try and get a photo sorted tonight. Thanks for the warm welcome from everyone.
Before I get accused of being a “fly by night merchant”, let me explain my situation.
My both parents passed away within a couple of months of each other, and I’ve had to quit work to look after my disabled sister. I don’t believe on claiming benefits, so I’ve had a look around for an honest living I can do at home. I came across a vinyl plotter on ebay, and in turn, found this forum. I don’t have the expertise to make proper signs, but have a few ideas on items to make and resell on ebay. I’m going to post a question in the help forum, and also an offer of working for free ( or payment for a little training? ) in the employment section if anyone is interested.
Thanks again for the welcome.
Simon

Simon, welcome mate.
Sorry to hear of your tremendous loss, and I am sure both parents would be proud of your outlook on life, and looking after your sister is certainly admirable. I have a friend who is in a similar situation. I don’t think anyone would think any less of you if you took the benefits that are available to you mate. Just my opinion, but claiming beneifits will not make you rich, but may make life for you and your sister a little easier.
There is plenty of help here, you only have to ask. I wouldn’t consider you a FBN either as you clearly want to contribute, and improve.
Cheers
ShaneCurious about you loggin name too. Do you have a technical background?

Hi Simon
Guess this a very strenuous time for you
Good to see your positive drive under these circumstances
As Shane says: These are genuine circumstances and that’s what the welfare system is set up to do – look after folks like you so I admire your determination.Just fire the questions – I’m pretty sure you’ll get the answers
John 😀

Hi & welcome,
It would be of value to all of us if you could just give us an idea of what area you live in (not your address just area, London, Nottingham, Liverpool etc) as there may be someone on here within traveling distance to show you how to go on (Training)By the way i wont go into detail on here but in my opinion you are definitely entitled to claim benefits more so than a few i know who claim for no other reason than they receive more in benefits than they can earn by working for a living
If you are anywhere near me i would gladly help you out with a day or two training.

Hi Simon

Thanks again.
Didn’t mean to post a negative image of my situation. 😳
I have a loving wife and a beautiful daughter ( Cherlee ). Looking after my sister, also means I get to spend lots and lots of time with them.
I work while my daughter is in school, and my sister is at her day centre, I do everything from delivering phone books to cleaning carpets to selling on ebay.
Living in Liverpool, I get loads of advice on benefits, but that’s not me, and never will be.
QUESTION. I’m having difficulty in finding the right software for using on my vinyl cutter. It came with Artcut 2002, and am thinking about buying Corel Draw 12 ( can buy for £80 ). Is this the right way? Please don’t recommend software costing hundreds of pounds.
P.S. I’ve got a new razor, so a photo will come real soon :lol1:

I am not a fan of using just Corel, although I use it everyday for design work.
You get what you pay for in sign software. Flexi, sign wiazrd, sign lab are all dedicated software, and make sign design and application much easier.
That said, corel 12 is a very good package, and a good price. I don’t think you’d do much better than that for a cheap option.

Why do you persecute yourself so Shane :lol1:

I use Corel for all design and then import the file into the software that runs the plotter. I found out that cutting direct from corel gave poor cutting results. Anyway, 80 quid is 80 quid but Coreldraw 12 for that is a bargain and should do most, if not all, of the things that you can do with ‘sign software’. Does your existing software let you import .ai files? If so, you can use Coreldraw to design with (or pretty much any other software for that matter).

Artcut 2002 does allow importing of .plt files from Corel Draw and Casmate so as Big G says you should be able to use all the advantages of Corel and simply import

hey simon (it is simon ?) , i’m sure we’ve met before on ebay ! anyways, i bought corel at that price, and it’s what i do 90% of my stuff on, once you get ahold of the basics, you tend to discover new tricks every day, i’m still getting to grips with it myself, but should you want any advice i’ll give it if i can !

😳 What I meant John is that I’m not a fan of using ‘only’ Corel 😳 That sound better?
