Its GOODBYE from me
Posted by Kevin Flowers on May 1, 2014 at 9:55 pmHi Guys
i’m finally packing it in, officially signed the paperwork today for the sale of the business and i’m looking forward to starting something new. I’ve seen businesses come and go plus people come and go over the years. Never attempted to call myself the best but always judged my own business on my ability to keep customers some of which have been with me in excess of 15 years. Always tried to treat other sign companies as colleagues rather than competitors and have some good friends in the sign industry but the industry is changing and i do not have the patience to pander to customers who call out 5 signmakers to get a price for a shop front which turns in to a banner etc anymore.I would like to say a big thank you to Rob for creating this site which i have been a member of for a while now and too all of yous who have made this site a place worth while visiting each day and wish everyone the best for the future. I will still look in to see who’s doing what if Rob don’t mind and maybe give a little help or share my opinion if i can. Did try to get to Sign UK to see a few people but didn’t have the time in the end so hopefully no one will be offended by me saying goodbyes this way.
All the best
Kevin

I think it is a great loss to the industry that someone like you is leaving. I have always admired your integrity and abilities. However, now that you have made this decision, I wish you every success in whatever you decide to do next. 😀

Hi Kev,
I’m with Phill. It is a great loss your a very knowledgeable and experienced guy

If was really good to finally catch up with you at Fespa last year and if your ever down my way be sure to pop in.
All the best Martin

Gutted 🙁
Obviously your decision has no impact on me directly but I will miss you all the same, both as a fellow signy to meet up now and again and as a good contributor here too.
Whats the next adventure Kev?
Kind regards – John

All the very best Kevin, I’d echo others comments, your advice and views have always been well balanced and helpful…I hope your new venture is a success but I also suspect the "Signforce" might be strong in you…so never say never 😉
-
Sorry to see you go to Kevin but can understand your reasoning, any ideas what you plan to do next or are you keeping that a secret for now.
With a bit of luck you will still be about the forums, one thing your not going to lose is the years of experience.
Best of luck with the future. -
All the very best Kevin, keep posting your comments when you can. I’ll be following you in the not too distant future.
-
Sorry to see you go! Keep popping in and keep an eye on us all.
All the best for the future.

Hopefully you’ll not forget us and stick your head in from time to time to see what’s going on

well this was a bit of a shocker to see but, I can relate to it, the huge budget jobs that turn out to be total lemons are becoming far too frequent, I often look at the salary & 5weeks holiday I’d now be on had I stuck with my old job! Something keeps me here for the time being though!
I’m with Martin, Martin C, Phill, John etc… shame to lose someone like you, you were one of the guys on here I’ve always looked up to on here – one of my peers, always helpful and critical when needed.
I’m glad we met briefly at FESPA last year!
I wish you the very best of luck with whatever you’re planning next. As Martin C says, if you’re ever passing Herstmonceux (we’ve got a castle and everyfink) then do pop in for a cuppa!

weve got a little steam train line and a channel tunnel – come here first 😀
-
we have an observatory next to the castle with a tiny steam train, the observatory can see johns kitchen with it’s telescopes and HD satellite camera feeds… ignore him – he’s jealous!
-
All the best for the future Kevin…I agree the industry is changing as everybody and their dog is a ‘designer’ or ‘knows how much your materials cost’ so sucking the joy & profit out of that end of the market.
In the words of a famous moto Illegitimi non carborundum
Move on to pastures new with a job well done in this one.

Good luck Kev
Your notes when we got our router were really helpful in getting us started.
I’m sure you’d have been as helpful even if we were based just round the corner from you!
Tell whoever is buying the business to get involved on uksignboards
Cheers

Best of luck kevin for the future and thanks for what you have added to the forum over the many years. :thumbup2: 😀 john

Kev,
You will be missed buddy!
Your more than welcome to pop in for a coffee at our place anytime mate.
Hope the future is bright, no doubt it will be with your skills buddy!
-
Kev,
I have to say i was gutted when i read this mate…
I have known you for a good few years now, as well as had the odd beer or two also! 😉 :lol1:I feel your pain when it comes to customers and competing with folk willing to work for nothing and only putting out crap at the best of times.
I hope you keep at it on the sidelines long enough to change your mind and perhaps come back into the game with maybe a different approach, frame of mind, whatever… you never know! 😛
anyway, please do keep popping onto the boards and sticking your head in when you feel like it. It would be a great loss to see you go completely mate. 🙁
take care Kev, and i wish you all the best with whatever business you venture into.
Rob…

Rob & the rest of you guys thank you very much for all your kind thoughts and wishes. Will still be popping in most days to see whats happening on the boards (hope you don’t mind Rob) Don’t think i will be returning to signs but like they say never say never got things on the go at the moment then hopefully a nice months holiday later in the year to Australia & New Zealand. Anyone close buy make sure the kettles always on
Kev
Hopefully the new owner is going to come and have a nose around the boards after showing him some posts on here today.
-
I only know you from on here Kev and I don’t visit as much as you but with the sort of attitude you have, you deserve to do well. All the best with whatever it is you’re doing next, I wish you every success.

thats the good thing about the boards its the friendships that are created with complete strangers from a mutual interest of creating good signage and of course a few beers when we do manage to meet up 😀Kev

Guys
I wanted to take a moment to share the following with you….
I was thinking back to how I got to know Kevin and it was from a situation that arose where I desperately needed a heat press….
Kevin must have seen my post and immediately offered to lend me his press!
What a true gentleman he got me out of a whole that time! Infact I’ve picked his brains for advice a number of times outside of the boards…He helped me quite a few times in my early days!
Not only a friend but a true gent who will be missed!
-
sorry to see you go Kevin, I do wish you luck in whatever venture your doing next 🙂
