It’s In the Cards
A scoutmaster is teaching the boys in his troop about survival in the desert.
“What are the three most important things you should bring with you in case you get lost in the desert?” he asks.
Several hands go up. “Food,” the boys answer. “Matches,” “a hatchet,” and so on.
Then one tenderfoot in the back raises his hand.
“Yes Timmy, what are the three most important things you would bring with you?” the scoutmaster asks.
“A compass, a canteen of water and a deck of cards,” the little fellow says.
“Why’s that?”
“Well,” the boy replies, “the compass is to find the right direction and the water is to prevent dehydration.”
“And what about the deck of cards?” the scoutmaster asks, puzzled.
“Well, sir, you can play solitaire, and when you do someone is bound to come up behind you and say,
“Put that red 9 on top of that black 10.”
