  • Issues with the Ezy taper??

Posted by Nick Dowell on August 31, 2007 at 3:23 pm

    Hi all,

We have in the past specialised in printing only banners & flags and manufactured flag poles. After investing in 2 new Roland machines, 1 of which is the Versacamm we have started selling quite a bit of print and cut vinyl to trade.

We then invested in an Ezytaper so we can application tape all vinyl as standard, but are experiencing a few problems with the quality with that it lays down the tape. It seems to be creasing up the vinyl before entering the mangle part, even though it has been fed through perfectly flat and square.

Hopefully there’s just an easy fix but we didn’t get anything in the way of instructions when the machine arrived.

Any ideas would be hugely appreciated!!!

    Thankyou in advance,
    Nick Dowell

There are videos available, if you speak to Peter he should be able to supply a link.

The bar that moves up and down… the vinyl should go under this when using the machine to lay tape on or to laminate, it helps to feed in it smoothly.

    Hi Gavin,

Thanks for your help. After watching the video on the website we tried it with the bar holding down the vinyl. This didn’t seem to help, infact it seemed to make things worse. It looks as though the movable bar might not be sitting paralel with the rubber rollers?

Also we havn’t tried applying a print onto a rigid board yet but is this quite easy to line up? and do you have to adjust the roller height?

Sorry for all the questions, just like I said we didn’t get any instructions

    thanks again

Peter is a very helpful guy and should talk you through everything you need.

I’ll assume you are starting from the very start:

Have you fitted the seperate rollers yet?

Once that’s done you need to make sure the machine is running square by running a board through it and adjusting the springs till it goes through straight.

Other than that I’ve found it pretty straight forward, I’ve got my own techniques now but the demos are pretty good.

Creasing in the middle is mainly caused by whatever you are trying to app tape hasn’t been like pulled taught sideways enough. You really need to make sure that especially with larger pieces 1300mm wide that you do this or you will end up with nice creases right down the middle at first and towards the sides as you progress longer. We experienced this at first but this was the problem not feeding in the sheet properly. If you have two people at first really pull the sheet from the sides when you first feed it through.

After speaking with Peter@Ezytaper Spain it looks like a simple fix, plus he is getting a DVD over to us with more advanced techniques on using the machine.

    Thanks all for your input

A roller could be out of line but one thing you must do is pull the app tape down in front of the 2 rollers to the bottom plate, then roll back the reel 3/4 of a turn before pushing the tape into the roller pinch.
