    HI

does anyone have any experience of the software available to make engraving photos (with a laser) easier?

I know Grafityp sell a version called Photograv, and I think Identify have a similar product too.

Or is it possible to do the same thing using Corel Draw?

    I haven’t had much luck so far….

Any info shed on this would be great.

    Martin,
Photograve etc just prepares the images and gives you a preview on the expected out come on to different substrates. You still have to put it into Corel to send it to the laser. You can get results from Corel but you just need to play. Are you converting the image top grayscale etc.

I have had a bit of a play, and converted to grayscale, but don’t seem to get the results I would expect.

Yet when I see the software mentioned, it gives the impression of making it a lot easier to do.

Perhaps I should play around with Corel a bit more first….. 😕

Once again, i won’t be much help Martin :lol1:
i’m yet to try any engraving package but i’ve achieved amazing results with Photoshop, CorelDraw and CorelPaint, preparation it’s only 50% of the job the other 50% are on Speed vs Power, in fact i think that the packages will only handle images in a set of actions pre-established and you only have to tell the software what kind of image it’s your input and required output, similar thing you can do yourself with Photoshop actions. I didn’t said it’s easier, only it’s cheaper but requires a lot of patience and correct knowledge of picture edition.

    Good Luck

Don’t mess around , photograv is the way to go to get a 99.5% great result , you can manually do what it does , but not with ease. We can take really lousy pics and get great output with photograv. Its not only useful for photos , it makes logos and coloured clipart with hidden lines etc VERY easy to use – worth every penny if you do lasering. Photograve does not just adjust contrast etc , it does a whole lot more and takes into account your lase spot size as well as the reactions of the material to laseri9ng , bleed , dot gain and so forth.

    Hmmm

I think Rodney may be right, as well as photos, I need to be able to sort out logos too – I think the cost of the software, might justify the time I would save in Photshop/Corel – and also wasted materials.

    Thanks Everyone 🙂

    Hi Martin

There’s a new software company called Vectric that have just launched some inexpensive software, you might want to check out their website. http://www.vectric.com You can download a free trial version to try out.

    Good Luck

    Hi All

Well, I opted for the Photograv software – have been playing with it all day.
It is so easy to use, and can get great results with little effort.

It was £275+VAT, but the amount of time it will save me, certainly justifies the cost.

Oh well, better call it a day now, as I have plenty of cast acryllic pictures of my children, wife, cars, etc etc now 😀

    Cheers

    Martin
