Hi I have been asked to price to flood coat the front of an office’s windows in a film which is white to the outside, but you can still see out from the inside. I didnt know there was such a thing, the guy says he has had it on his vans before. I have only seen the usual tint types and the reflective silvers golds etc etc. Can u point me in the right direction please guys. Cheers
Matt- oh and a slightly late happy new year to you all. havent had chance to get on b4 now, 🙂

Matt your customer is probably talking about perforated vinyl. It’s normally used as a print media, you see it on bus windows etc etc. . . ( its got millions of little holes in it. . . )
its available from most well known suppliers.

I have had a lot to do with window films, and the only time I’ve ever heard of this stuff is from some smug architect who’s " definitely seen it somewhere ", but can’t remember where.

We have a job to do at the moment (for a new mental institution!), and we are going through the same thing with the architect.

He swears it’s not contravision, but we put a sample piece on clear plex to show him the effect, and he’s happy with it now.

I think the magical white window film (one way vision) is an urban legend among architects!!!! 😛

    Cheers

it is probably controvison like has been said, but i did use some "white" window film from bonwick, bronswik… argh i give up. always get their name wrong. anyway, they do it. not cheap stuff, but kinda classy when in place. from memory you cant see through this stuff but i do remember the guy (customer) saying that there was different densities. i just ordered to his spec… that said, these were "interior" glass walls i was covering so maybe you do see through if your looking outside?

anyway… just thought ide add that. 😀

    Mat,
Try giving this firm a ring, Stockfilms on 0208 441 0449, they specialize in window films.

right i have asked the companies you suggested and none have heard of what im looking for. I went back to the customer today and told him the bad news so far. He then told me that he bought some from halfords a few years ago, and used it on his van windows, he said it was a auto tint film that was definitely white on the outside to go with his white van, and then the inside was clear to allow him to see through it. I really am baffled by this, he is soo adamant that it is in halfords so I should be able to get it. But im totally stumped.

Oh well if it came from Halfords then it must have been top quality stuff 😀

If you have a branch nearby I’d be inclined to pop in just to look on the shelf. We don’t deal much in window film but have certainly never seen/come across white.

I’d say the best option is contravision, get a sample and try to persued him.

    Matt,

Trust me on this one – it does not exist!
He didn’t buy white window film from halfords because they never sold it because it does not exist!!!!

He probably got some crap quality mirror tint from them.

I wouldn’t waste my time on this guy mate.

    Cheers

It’s not your problem Mat. Just tell him to pop into Halfords and buy some for you to fit for him. 😀

Would HAVE to agree – Halfrauds have never sold it. Mirror..yes, heavy black tint…yes, even a bit of nasty smoked purple – but definitely NO white.

I know a company that does commercial window tinting..not auto, but office blocks & conservatories – and THEY don’t do it.
3 types of mirror, 10 levels of grey tint & proper translucent colours – but no white.

If it was going to be anywhere – it’d show up on the net.

not the company I was on about…but show what’s available.

It was probably bought from Halfrauds, but whoever applied it left the backing paper on 😉

Better yet – sell him a bottle of ‘windowlene’…if he really wants a white film that goes on windows…

dave, the one on your link that discribes

    Privacy White Mini Striped
White and clear striped vinyl film. The stripes run length ways on the stock roll and are 4mm wide. Ideal for partial privacy..

this maybe looked at as white from outside but visible from inside. reason i say is. this si much the same as the demo i did for the rear of van windows using regular vinyl stripes. drive upto it from outside the window appears almost solid colour, but from inside is very easy to see out?
