We have just completed 500 chalkboards and tried to use chalkboard vinyl (can’t remember the make) , it was not great for a few reasons (the stuff we used was not wiping off well and we applied it to a masonite and on the edges it started coming off as well as the fact that if there was ANY dust under it , it developed peaks which led to hassles when trying to wipe the chalk off) so we used a chalkboard paint instead which works marvellously , was cheap and easy to paint /roll on. We couldnt spray it due to the viscosity.

must confess, I only use blackboard vinyl if I am looking for something quick.
Can’t beat the real stuff, but the best blackboard paint is the non-water based stuff. Lasts heaps longer, and 2 coats is always a better option.
