is there a metallic gold effect vinyl, gold leaf ?
Posted by Hugh Potter on December 30, 2005 at 9:51 pmhey all, have a pal with a period 60’s yank race car, he’s approached me about some work and wants a design using a ‘gold leaf effect’ vinyl, ie a very metallic looking gold,
i received a couple of samples from the supplier, but neither seemed particularly ‘metallic’, even the rimark ‘metallic’ seemed satin !
any ideas please ?

Real gold without having to do it by hand. They do recommend to seal the edges, although that is up for debate by people that use it.

thanks marek, how are the edges sealed ? could i lamnate the whole thing in clear vinyl or would that lose the meatallic brightness ?
sorry, i’ll check the site !!

SignGold is real gold embedded/bonded into Tedlar film.
I’ve never sealed the edges yet, altho they do recommend it.

Depends really on the design he is looking for and how big, and how much he is prepared to spend. Does he want a monogram, or a full blox eagle on the bonnet(hood)

thanks guys,
Pete, it’ll be for a ‘dealership sponsor’ name on the side of the car, as per the original factory sponsored racers of the period, dont have a pic to hand i’m afraid.

Hugh, be careful what metallic you buy if not SignGold.
Altho it has a 10-14 year outdoor lifespan,
some mylars are not for outdoor use, period.
And some metallics only have a short lifespan.
A sample kit including a cool CD is only $99 for 2 yards.

thanks Jill, i’ll bear that in mind, i’ll need to speak to the guy with regards to what he’s prepared to spend, will need 2yrs per side i reckon !
thanks
