  • is my CD-rom causing my computer to freeze?

Posted by Lorraine Clinch on January 31, 2007 at 1:17 am

When I insert my fully paid-for, legit graphics CD, which was working perfectly last week, into either computer it is not able to be seen, and on the main comp. everything slows to a standstill, so that I have to re-boot. Does anyone have any idea why? Other cd’s all work as usual, it seems to be just this one.
Very puzzling, especially as I have had other computer issues around the same time. 👿

if this one is causing a problem on more than one pc (ie. the fault is following the disc) and other cd’s are working fine, then the disc is the problem. as advised above, give it a clean and try again. if that doesnt work, look to getting the cd replaced by whoever supplied it.

Looks like I shall be phoning the supplier-the disk is spotless, hasn’t been used that much, certainly no marmalade on it Dave 🙄

    Thanks for your help!

I have noticed a problem with my disc 2 only that if i try to access the disc from my sign software it hang for ages. I think this is something to do with the speed my DVD drive reads the disc to over come this problem i have copied the complete CD to the hard drive and it now flies when importing the files, this disc has many files on it and it was getting very frustrating
    rich 😀 😀

All sorts of things can cause problems with discs so although it may look OK and not scratched it doesn’t mean that it is OK. Does the drive seem to be trying to continually read the disc Lorraine because as Alan has mentioned this is a common cause of disc failure, another one is the drive telling you there is no disc inserted but this doesn’t normally cause the computer to freeze.

A great big thanks to Brian, of Impact Graphic Solutions, he had no hesitation in sending me a new disk when I spoke to him about the problem I’ve been having.
New disk arrived today, and is working well
    thanks Brian!
    :thanks2:
