  • is it worth my while upgrading to flexisign?

Has anyone ever used Flexsign? we have since it was introduced a good few years ago I have 5 Macs and they all run either V5.6 orV 5.8. I am thinking of upgrading all my Macs to run system OS 10 and upgrading this excellent software to the very latest v7. My question is- IS IT WORTH THE EXPENCE?…almost 3K!!
Has anyone using the latest (very expensive) version of Flexisign ever used the earlier now dated versions which I am still using? if so is the difference worth the high investment? I only run 2 plotters from the Macs – 2 excellent Graftec 610 and 1220mm neither of which has missed a beat in 13 years of collective use the trick is to keep them clean at all times
I would welcome any information on the use of the present Flexi software will it run routers I tried to talk to Graftec but they dont seem to want to talk to me! very dissapointing when there is a potential sale?
I would love to discuss the above with any member who can help or knows anything about V7
    regards to all Steve

We have been using MAC Flexi for nearly 9 years. We also stuck on v5.8 as been the most reliable and stable.

We bought V6 but it was very unstable. Granthams said v6+ etc was more stable but it still required more memory etc. So we avoided.

We do ALL of our design work in Illustrator V8 ( again 9 was a dog and 10 went more in the diorection of web design stuff). I would use V10 more if we had a large format colour printer.

Back to Flexi, it made a lot of changes to the main GUI interface, most made things a little “heavy and numb to use” it seemed very Americanised to try and make things very simple.

as you have used Flexi 5.8 for such a long time it will be a major upheavel to change to the new interface and re learn all the shortcuts etc.

My main gripe was with the production manager, You have to visit two or three pages to change pressure and speed, copy spacing and repeats etc. Just seemed so long winded. They even turned the cutter output through 90 degress so it works up the screen! Seems to me they made a lot of changes just so it looked worth the extra cash.

OS 10 is VERY stable, because of the UNIX underpinnings, and all the new software is steering towards OS10 only. Most of the new MACS are sold as dual boot, but this is due to end very soon.

We are looking at taking the route of buying two new G4’s which will run9.2.2 to gives us a couple of years to let everything catch up and settle down. So we can run what we have, that works very reliably on a day to day basis. Also they are starting not to release dongles for earlier versions, which means if you want another workstation it may have to be V7+

Well, their my opinions, but it looks like you may have to go OS10 in year or so wether you want to or not.

I don’t know about the Mac versions but anything above the 5.n versions on PC are loads better. The older versions were a bit slow as they were 16bit code.

I prefer the new GUI aswell, the previous versions were very basic and I don’t think were worth the expense.

Wow- great to get feedback on a question posted ages ago thanks for that guys I think i am right in suggesting that up to date Flex 7 is not available for any Mac is that true? will V6.6 run on OS 9.1 or 9.2 classic?
We have a beta version loadd and I agree its too PC for my liking!!!
I am laothe to change anything the MacG4 running Flexi 5.6 and Illlustrator 10/5.5 for vector files s totally stable and has served us well over the past 15 years has anybody got the G5/Flexi 6.6 combination yet and if so how does that perform?.
