• Is it still up!!!

I have just put up my first sign using VHB tape and I’m panicking that it won’t be up there in the morning. I couldn’t bear to leave it in case it didn’t hold. 😮 I guess it does work but only time will tell. 🙄

in all honesty mate you should be 100% fine.

by any chance did someone give you guide lines on how this should be applied? we had 3M reps show us.. two came in to sell us the product when it came out.
if not, how did instructions go?

dont get me wrong, i use the stuff daily and highly recomend it. but there is some important things to take on board. you know, its been about 2 years past, and i still have not done this demo yet? that and about a dozen i have qued… ill have to get my finger out. sorry 😉

there are various reasons why things happen mate. even i have my doubts… ide like to hear how others apply it compared to what i was shown. now having said that… still i modified what i was shown and use my own methods. just curious to the way others apply/lay it up?

The tape was Doro-Bond 881 apparently it can stick an elephant to the wall 🙄 I drilled and screwwed two pieces of foamex about two thirds the final size to the wall, and the placed as many strips of tape over these. Then I placed the sign (foamex with digi print) against them and pushed for all I’m worth 😕 I’m just going back there now to see if it’s on the floor or not, wish me luck.

I use VHB tape everyday, on all sorts of situations.

Two things will make it fail

    1. A dirty (greasy) surface. Make sure you clean it well

    2. A cold surface. The foam based tapes will stick better to a colder surface, but are traditionally not as good adhesion in all situations. The clear urethane tapes (known here as extreme bond tape) work best with a long term situation.

I have stuck foamex to concrete and they never fall down.

In vhb tapes, from my experience, you get what you pay for.

what finish has the wall mate?
“this maybe just me” but if it wasnt very smoth and clean ide bodyswerve.
foamex should be fine but there is a process for bonding one thing to another that me just typing wouldnt really explain well.. simply because im crap at explaining “i think” :lol1:
i only use 3M tapes so cant really comment on other makes. even 3M have differnt grades of VHB tape. thats why i asked about colour.
the only thing im not “confident” about (not saying it doesnt work though) is fitting on site outside. i would just rather fit it in house. obviously if its a wall then you have no choice.

Just got a phone call to say that it has blown off the wall 😮 👿 (hot) (hot) (hot). Any ideas for invisible fixing for a foamex sign please

Yes, make hanging strips for the back. Like…erm..say a 1 inch strip glued to a 2 inch strip. Fix one to the wall and one to the back of the panel and slot the panel one onto the one on the wall. Did I explain that clearly?
