    hey everyone

question about coreldraw 12, is it possible to obtain a wider selection of colours on this software, all i seem to have is the colour palette on the right hand side of the screen.

    thanks

    Hi Tris

you can specify any colour you like. Use the fill tool on the main toolbox. IU think the keyboard shortcut is shift + F11 for the dialog box.

You can alos change the colour pallette on the right. Right click on an colour for options menu.

Go to "window" "Colour Pallets" and choose from many colour swatches, this will then fix them to the side of your workspace.

you can change the default palette by going to "window"…scrolling down to "colour palettes"……you’ll get a flyout menu with all the different palette types

    HI Tris,

it’s worth bearing in mind, that although you can use cmyk or rgb palets, you have to go with what will be able to be matched in vinyl, unless of course you’re printing or using the finished design for the web etc.

that said i often use both pallets on one design ! sometimes i find a particular colour does not look red enough, or the right blue etc,

    waffling again ! 😀

Holding the left mouse button down for a few seconds on any colour square of the pallet will give a fly out of similar colours or if using a Pantone chart tints of the colour.

the one thing that annoys me about that little function is that you can’t change the fill & the outline at the same time ………………can you ??

but you can’t do it all in one go though George can you? Like you would do in the main palette swatch

It doesn’t seem to allow you to right click left click….not a major problem I know but it’s just one of those little irritations

Don’t forget the eyedropper tool for sampling a colour and then transferring that to another object as fill or outline. The eyedropper can also sample colour from another application or webpage or an objects attributes within Draw, I suspect this tool is not used to its full potential by users.

Also, you can right click and drag an object onto another to copy its properties; fill, outline or both.

George, open website page (or another application) and maximise, open Corel Draw and reduce window slightly so you can view both web page and Draw, select eyedropper and on toolbar click on ‘select from desktop’ move eyedropper over item on webpage and left click, (colour should appear bottom right of Corel window as normal) – move eyedropper tool over Corel object you want to colour pressing shift key, eyedropper icon will turn to bucket with solid square, left click and object will be filled, if you move to object perimiter solid square will become outline square and this will colour the outline.

    Alan,

That’s the tip of the week i think. I’ve only ever used the eyedropper tool a few times as the colour i’m matching are often in other packages. Didn’t realise you could select from desktop.

Thanks for that. Time saved indeed.

Maybe one day George, I would add to the above that a colour from a webpage or another application may come from a non colour managed source. Corel maybe colour managed so you may see a slightly different colour.
