  • Is it possible to find a trade supplier?

Posted by Stuart Miller on January 24, 2012 at 3:03 pm

I am looking for a trade supplier of a pictorial/double trough light for a projecting sign.
I come across loads of companies selling A kit them for around £190. All of these companies seems to sell direct to the public at this price and I can’t help thinking it must be possible to get them cheaper at trade to make passing them on to customers as a viable option.
    What do others do?
Where are these suppliers getting their stock from as the kits all look the same so they must be all sourcing and buying from the same place rather than manufacturing them themselves.
It seems customers can now nearly always purchase items direct at the same price as us.

Stuart finding trade only companies is becoming increasingly more difficult I would agree but have you actually tried phoning any of these companies or are you just going by website info?? Reason I ask is because I found that some companies would give you a discount if you could prove you were a trade customer but you had to actually phone them to find this info out.
I use to use portland lighting, haven’t needed anything for a long time so don’t know if they sell direct to public now.

    Hi Mate

    Have you tried Portland?

They offer a reasonable trade discount, albeit they aren’t a trade only supplier.

I’ve looked many times and have never come across a pure trade supplier for this type of product.

    Cheers
    Macky

Yes to both questions. I have tried Portland and phoned several.
The best was actually another sign maker, Vivid Signs, who advertise £185 and then give trade 5% off this. I’m sure they don’t actually manufacture and the photo all these companies use is the same leading me to believe it is issued by the manufacturer. If these can sell at this price as a busines they must be sourcing them cheaper somewhere.
