Simon, I’m in the same situation, and I think that if customers send you a great thank you email, then that’s the time to ask for a google review.

Now, must go through all the flagged emails where the job is completed, but I told myself that there was one more thing to do.

    Thanks for reminding me.

offer to knock a tenner off the job if they could take the time to leave a review. Most people will bite your hand off

Perfectly acceptable, and surprisingly effective, customers do read them, and make decisions based on them. We’ve had a number of customers who chose us due to our reviews.

It’s an art asking without sounding desperate, and getting them to do it. Plus too many 5* reviews and it may look a little suspect.

A follow up call a week after the jobs completed, check everything is OK, when they say ‘yes, it’s brilliant’ ask them if they could spare 2mins leaving a review, follow up with an e-mail with the link to share it.

I can’t see a problem with asking, especially as you do descent work and the customer is happy.

Most things you buy online these days no matter how small are followed up with a request for a review. Its the way of the world.

When we purchased a 3pce suite last year, after the sale the guy asked if we could post a google review, It didn’t surprise me being asked and had no problem posting one as the service was good.

Absolutely nothing wrong in asking for this type of thing. I can’t get off the phone with Virgin Media or buy anything online without a followup email or on-screen prompt asking me to rate my experience blah blah.

However, people are lazy and without putting it under their nose there and then, you will not get many folk thinking, “oh yeh I must go rate that sign guy now!” 🤨

I would suggest having a short, polite email template typed-up. have a direct link to the Google ranking page or whatever page they need to visit. So it is just a single click and they are there!

As has been said, you could offer an incentive by stating:

“We are just processing your invoice and wondered if you would consider rating us 5 stars by clicking *HERE* In turn, we will discount your invoice £10 for your time!”

    It’s worth a shot! 🙂
