  • Interchangeable frame system for adverts?

Posted by Gil Johnson on May 22, 2019 at 12:34 pm

    Hi,

We have some stainless steel tankers to attach a frame to with ability to change the sign panel, frame needs to be bonded not mechanically fixed.

Hoping someone can help to source a frame system or a way to go about this as I’m a bit stumped! (The customer spec’d magnetic panels for stainless steel tankers [emoji849]).

I know this may not work depending on the shape & size of the vehicle & who is to change the panel, but keeping it simple, could you not just use a removable vinyl & forget the frame?

    Hi Myles,

It’s going to changed fairly frequently so it’s got to be a frame of some sort.

you could use the 3M scotch lock on the rear of banner material?
comes in various strengths. I think Smiths gave me a sample of this years ago now… was on the rear of two bits of acrylic and you really had to pull to get it apart.

the screenshot ive attached is just one i found on Amazon. comes in different widths and strengths.

    Thanks Rob,

It may work as the panels aren’t too large.

I’d be very cautious of this job, bonded or Velcro fixed panels on a vehicle traveling at over 50mph! I’d feel safer just using a removable vinyl due to liability

I agree – that’s why I thought I’d see what came back from the boards, I’ve requested info from a couple of uk suppliers for frame systems to see if they will suit – could be an issue for one system because of the curvature of the tank but the other system looks like it may suit.

I would be amazed if the wind would lift a small panel like that with the 3M lock tape.

You could make a very simple slide-in system for a thin aluminium or HIPS plastic panel.
Using a U-Shape aluminium bar section. just put it through a set of metal pinch rollers to quickly form the curve of the tank.
fix both sides and bottom of the slotted frame to the vehicle and slide the panel down into it which will, in turn, form the bend when entered.
any metal fabricators will probably have pinch rollers and do this for you.
