I did some fridge magnets the other day using some Avery sheets which I picked up at PC World.
They came out well but I didn’t like the dull uncoated/matt finish. I’m trying to find a gloss alternative.

I’ve given it a go, but the problem I had was cutting out the magnetic. I ended up printing the outline and cutting round it with a pair of scissors. Fine for a very very short run, but if you’re doing anything over 50, you end up with very sore fingers! 🙁

Another answer is there are an increasing number of suppliers selling the business card sized magnetics with the rounded corners. A stamping machine can be bought relatively cheaply, and although they’d only be one colour, its quite a good solution. 2 or 3 colours can be achieved, but you have to purchase a separate printing block each time unless you use Rodney’s block making methods.

Another way, you can buy hand-cutting blocks, where you have a block with a cutting blade inset to the shape you require, but you hit it with a mallet to make the cut. The blades blunt quite quickly if you thump on them too hard and registration is really difficult, it’d be easier to drive a double decker bus round a shopping arcade! 😮

Last option that springs to mind is a full colour business card printer, feeding the magnetic material through one by one, but at £2k a pop, its not what you’d call a budget option 🙁

I know I’m not much help for you achieving what you want to achieve, but I’ve explored quite a few avenues for doing this type of stuff inhouse, and its not as easy as I first thought 😕

I think the printrer option is a nono 😀
I fancy having a run purely to see how it comes out, maybe make a couple of cheap xmas prezzies 😀

Juzzer, Please let me know if you find a gloss alternative, what exactly are Avery sheets though (?)
