Inkjet Cartridge issues, advice needed please?
Hi All,
Not sure if anyone can help but I’ve tried to search the forums with no luck. I appreciate this isn’t truly a signmakers problem but here goes.
I’ve a Samsung laser printer in the office for quotes and the like but now I’m as good a retired, the printer seems to thinks it’s time is up too ? Naturally it doesn’t get a lot of use anymore and has recently started to print colours very badly i.e. patchy and rather faint. The colour cartridges are all down to 13% and although I know I’ve run them right out before without a problem. I wondered if this might be the fault ? The transfer roller (if that’s the bright green one ) looks rather pale, whereas the ‘black’ roller is still really bright. I’m reluctant to buy a full set of cartridges at over £400 if it doesn’t solve the problem. It would be cheaper to but a refillable inkjet for the amount and quality of work needed.
Q 1. Could it just be low cartridges ?
Q 2. Anybody refill their own ? If so who do you use ? OR
Q 3. Any recommendations for cheap cartridges ? Lastly.
Q4. Any recommendation for refillable ink jet printers ?
Your thoughts would be most appreciated.

Life’s too short, if your using your printer for quotes, buy a cheap inkjet printer and go from there and send your old printer gracefully into retirement

If just for invoices etc and not doing a high volume of paper printing, just buy a new inkjet printer.
you can buy the printer complete with onboard scanner, photocopier, Bluetooth, wifi connections and more. all for about £80 and comes with some free low-ink carts ready to use.If you are doing a fair bit of invoicing or document printing, buy one with its own bulk ink system.

Good advice me thinks ! I’ll be looking at inkjets after I’ve typed this. Unfortunately I still find it difficult to throw stuff if I think there’s still a chance that I could squeeze just a little more from it. It’s an age thing I think !

I’m still nursing my old OKI 5600 laser. I haven’t printed garment prints on it in over ten years (at least) so it’s only used for proofs, invoices etc. I just buy all generic third party toner (around £45 a set of four) and refurbished / new old stock image drums etc. on ebay.
Ashamedly I admit to having “kicked the sh## out of it on more than one occasion due to paper jams, then sheepishly put it back together again when I’ve thought about the replacement cost.. it’s still keeps coming back wagging it’s tail!!!

One thing to be aware of, is that some HP inkjets (if not all of them now), require an account to be set up, and won’t print unless connected to the account and the internet, so in my opinion, they can do one.
