Hi there, usually i don’t do installing but ive got a one off to do, its my brothers race car, he’s come to me wanting a large chequered flag design over the side of the car approx 1.8 meters wide in total.. so im after a couple of tips etc. he wants to use that chrome material the stuff ive used before and probably will use for this is called something like Oracal 351 metallicised polyester. I need to do a graphic for him of the chequered flag that’s the chrome colour with a black outline.. as ive never used the 351 on large areas again i just wanted to make sure im heading in the right direction before i order the material.. i was planning on doing the black border first then laying the silver overtop of that cut slightly smaller, is this the right way to do this? and also should i apply the silver to the black in the workshop or lay the black onto the car first then apply the silver on top of that??? any tips, hints etc would be great… also im going to attempt doing this install dry any tips when working with this material as its very thin??? (hes paying and realizes ive never worked with this stuff before, so i can afford to make a couple of mistakes learning)

    thanks!!!

my main concern is should i lay the black down on the car first then layer the chrome on top of that, or should i do all this before hand and just apply both to the car at once.

depends on the oracal mirror foil you are using mate. oracal have a new 5 year life vinyl. if you can get it use that. 99% of chrome vinyls on the market are 6 months life. some as much as 2 years on the likes of a shop fascia sign. the only way i have found to increase the life and to stop it curling back from the surface is to apply a layer of vinyl first.
i see this is what you intend doing. if so apply the black first onto the vehicle. then apply the mirror onto that. (not together)
